Default Do it yourself window tinting questions.

I know they sell the rolls to tint car windows yourself in places like pep-boys or autozone. Is the stuff that this stores carry crap? Anyone done it with good results? Is it very hard? What is the best brand to get? Any special tools needed? And any other general info would be appreciated.

:thanks:

The stuff they sell in rolls from car shops aint really that good but ok on a budget. If you do try it yourself you have to be prepared for it to take you a while. Clean windows VERY well before hand also. Get warm water, put it in a spray bottle like the one people use to water plants, add a drop or two of washing up liquid and apply it to the window and also the film. This then allows you to place the film on the window and push it around till you are happy to trim it. Once trimmed using a very sharp blade, take a credit card and wrap some masking tape round and round one edge and apply it to the film dragging down the way pushing all the soapy water out. The masking tape stops you scratching the film. Keep getting the water out then your done. The kits usually come with a knife and a piece of plastic to use instead of the c/c idea but they can still scratch the film. :thumb:

and besides, if you buy the window tint from the store, it should come with directions on how to apply it on. :thumb: I tried it once, the only thing I had trouble with was getting the window glass out of the car's door, so i stopped bothering with it
