Well it depends. If its usually a slow distance, i wont even bother to let the engine idle. The only time you really wanna have your turbotimer on, or let it idle is when u run the engine hard. Than i run it for about 45 sec - whenever I feel its good enough

Just casual driving (no boost) I let it run for 30sec to 1 min. If I have been in the boost at all I'll let it run for 1-3 mins. If I have been running the crap out of it I let it run for 5 mins.

The point of the turbo timer is to keep the oil circulating in the turbo t o cool it. A turbo can reach a couple of thousand degrees. Oil cokes (cooks and solidifies) at less than a thousand. If that oil is sitting in the turbo and thee turbo is still at temp the oil can cook and clog the turbo... keeping it from getting oil the next time you use it!

(do not try this at home, professional drivers in a closed kitchen)

Go turn your electric stove on HIGH for about 5 or 10 mins. Turn it off and wait 30 secs. Now stick your hand on it. Still pretty hot huh 30 secs is not enough cooling time for hard run turbo, that is why they have the longer settings. But 30 secs is better than no turbo timer at all. It amazes me how many performance turbo cars do have them! Was the first thing I added!

IMO it's really not needed.

I just drive easy for the last 3-5 minutes of my trip and idle it myself if I ran the car really hard. Driving slowly is actually much better than letting the car heat soak itself at idle.

A turbo timer may be a PITA to sort out with his VW locking/alarm system too.

I say skip on the whole idea. TT's are for ricers.

Also, why waste your time with a K04? At the minimum get a K16 or K24 hybrid. A Garrett turbo would be even better.
