Default Lancer Evolution VII?

Quick question, did the Mitsubishi Lancer Evolution VII (7) ever come to the United States? A guy is convinced on telling me that it came to the U.S. and i am telling him that the Evo VIII (8) was the first of the Evolution Series to come to the U.S. His proof is that it was in 2F2F. Can anyone help answer?

The Evolution VIII is the first of the line to be sold by mitsubishi motors of north america.

The most notable difference between the 7 and 8 is that in the US the Evo VIII does not feature the ACD and AYC present in both the 7 and the 8 MR (scheduled for release in the US shortly)

Other than this the two are very similar cars.

easiest way to tell evo7/8 apart is by their bonnet vents,evo7 has two and the evo8 has one,in new zealand evo7/8s are very common,

Quick questions: If that is in fact a snorkel on the front of the roof, how does it work? How and where is it routing the air?

To help the cars deal with deep-water crossings they are fitted with a special air intake system 'snorkel' from the engineĦs air intake to the roof. When breathing through the snorkel the car can drive through water up to four feet deep

That's sweet, but how is the air routed? Is there pipes coming down from the roof into the engine bay? It's definitely an intimidating car!

They used an Evo 7 for 2F2F.

in that particular photo the air scoop on the roof is an air vent to get fresh air into the cabin not for the engine, the air getting fed to the engine is on the left hand side of the bonnet you can just make out the naca duct

See, that's what I thought. I just couldn't understand how they would route the air to the engine from that part of the roof, I mean, I'm sure it's possible, but it probably wouldn't be too efficient running all that length to the motor. Like suckin out of a really long straw I'd imagine. Thanks for the clarification.
