No I haven't checked em, good idea. Especially with the amount of miles on them (164K) Would make sense why the A/F controller is keeping the check engine light off when I bump up the fuel a bit. If I take off the fuel injectors will it be obvious that they are gunked or is there a test that needs to be done etc? I can't have too much downtime on the car.

Well, after 164k miles they most surely are, at least,a little clogged so doing a clean up cant hurt...
You can check them with a pneumatic unit injector tester, it looks something like this: ![]() this machine can clean them also... if they are too clogged it can take up to 2 hours cleaning them, i have no idea how much this could cost though.

Hmmmm, the only problem there is sending them out. I can't have too much downtime. At the same time I don't have alot of $$$ to spend either so I tend to do all the work that i can. Does any1 know approx what it costs to have the fuel injectors rebuilt? To get brand new 1's it's about $70 each. So that's $280 (not including the rings) I'm just trying to figure out which way I can handle this with the least amount of time lost/$$$ spent. I really appreciate it guys
![]() BTW: After cleaning up the map sensor I got another 20 miles per tank so I'm on the right path, thanks again

If you want you injectors cleaned for cheap.....just take them out, soak them for 20 min. in a container full of mineral spirits. Take them out, use canned air to get them dried off, use a TINY bit of dielectric grease around the rubber o ring ( if they have an o ring on them ) Plug them back up and presto, clean injectors. They don't have to be running under a full duty cycle to become clean, that is a way that mechanics rip you off. Soaking them will do the job just as well.

I appreciate it. I already have the dielectric grease so I'll go pick up the mineral spirits soon. The only thing I'm wondering, don't they have some type of filter in them? Would the spirits clean that well enough? I'm still gonna do it regardless, just wondering ![]() BTW: Fat Kid - From what I've seen fuel injector cleaners only work on slightly dirty injectors (more of a maintenance thing to try to keep them clean) I've used them fairly consistently to try to keep everything running correctly but they just seem to be ineffective for the most part in my case. Then again, there have been quite a few periods of extended sitting (months) which probably contributed towards them becoming dirty/clogged + all the miles. I guess I'll find out what the deal is when I pull them off soon

^ Actually, I talked w/ my friend and he said that kerosene or canned carb cleaner will work better to clean them in.....he also said that they must be kept with the plug side sticking up and be VERY dried off and wiped clean.

I have everything I need then. Think I'll get it done this weekend. I figured that u shouldn't get the connector part wet The stuff I have is Gunk Fuel injector/Air Intake Cleaner. Says to spray it directly into the throttle body for 1 min/use half can. Any experience with it? Should I follow the directions or soak them?

^ Hmm.....try it according to the directions first, if the results are not what you desire, then soak those bastards.

Have you tried a fuel filter??? also check your fuel pump output to see if maybe its not putting the proper pressure/flow thats needed. lack of fuel could cause it to run lean and possibly hot. When was the last time you cleaned out your cooling system?? my b18 had a light green sludge in it when i got it from lack of maintenance. Read your spark plugs for a lean condition. Any evap code is not going to cause a car to run different i see them daily and you would never know the difference btw its running. u can check your injector spray pattern by - (this can be dangerous) remove your fuel rail, put a large catch bin under you WHOLE fuel rail, have a second person crank engine and watch the spray pattern - all should have a conical shape this is the easiest way to check them without expensive equiptment. It definatly sounds like a fuel related issue. Again red your plugs that may give you an idea as to which cylinder is the problem. Check Spark too if your coil is weak (this happens sometimes when they get warm-hot) it wont fire off the fuel charge as efficently. Check the exhaust back pressure a slightly plugged cat could cause a fuel issue by falsifying the O2 readings in the PCM. ARE THERE ANY OTHER WARM RUNNING SYMPTOMS???? Missfires, bogging at certian RPM's???

I'd like to do the fuel injector/rail test but atm I don't have any1 competent to do it with ![]() Fuel filter/all tune up related items have been done within the last year or so. Cat, 02 sensors and EGR valve were changed with last 2 years. Radiator was changed less than 2 years ago. I couldn't find the correct fittings to flush the entire system out though I will look into that.Update: I ran the fuel injector cleaner spray then drove the car around for 1/2 hr. with the air/fuel controller settings off. Seems to have helped quite a bit. Not brand new or anything but it definitely has improved. Like I said, I'm kinda strapped for cash atm so I'm trying to go cheap and work my way up if i have to. I was thinking maybe using Fat Kid's idea, get a good fuel injector cleaner (Techron etc) and at the same time run another half can of the TB/injector spray through the throttle body. Good idea bad idea?

^ One more thought. does your car have a cam position sensor? I have seen some cars run rough and want to stall and heat up a little w/ that sensor going bad.

no cam sensor as far as i know its a distributor driven off the cam on the right side of engine...... If the car seemed to improve after running fuel injector cleaner it sounds like a fuel injector is carboned up and blocking flow or the intake valves are carboned up and blocking airflow. If you can afford it run a can of seafoam cleaner through the system. just remove a non-important vaccuum line off the throttle body and run the cleaner through till the vehicle stalls out - the car will start to smoke out tailpipe fist and run very rough before it stalls - you should have at least used a half can of cleaner before it stalls - let the vehicle sit for about 15 minutes - then restart it - it will smoke heavily. basically its a combustion chamber and intake cleaner - also if you can afford it at a later date try having a professional injector service b4 you condem any injectors - injector around 200 bucks---pro fuel injector cleaning around 120 bucks
