do you have to heel-toe with your heel on the gas and your toe on the brake? this seems to be how it is done in the videos you see, but i find it easier to put the heel on the brake and my toe on the gas.

any comments?
by the way, the above is how i heel toe in my winter sentra, and only to practice it, not for any real reason

I don't think my ankle wants to bend like that.

It depends on the car, but for me it's not really heel-toe. For most cars, the ball of my foot is on the brake and the gas pedal is actuated with the side of my foot.

Same here, You may want to try adjusting your pedals to where it is comfortable to heel toe the "correct" way. Doing it the way you do leads me to believe you are also having to turn your hip slightly also which can effect your actual steering and concentration. The way Johnny and I do it feels completely natural after a while and with lots of practice you will do it naturally without even thinking about it. Keep doing it your way which may also be a little more difficult which = slower you'll almost have to plan to do it which isn't good IMO. BTW get to talkin with BellaGT she knows a little something about it and she is a girl

thanks, it must just be the way the pedals are, the gas is too far away to get my heel or the side of my foot on it without depressing the brake almost to the floor. it actually is easier in this car to do it the way i described, probably because the gas pedal is higher than the brake and so long. i don't want to practice this way in the sentra if it will be completely wrong when i start driving my G35 again once winter is over.

I agree with the other two. When I was learning how to heel-toe, I actually thought it was easier to do the way you are describing, Jeremy. However, I have since learned that the car's pedals were placed too far apart and at odd angles, preventing the correct method (which gives greater control of the brake, which is the pedal that really matters in a heel-toe situation).

EDIT--did they un-ban you, NoHook?

LOL vin Diesel is a **** that helped single handedly ruin our sport by that stupid movie, its because of him that the price of supras and rx-7's are high right now. Drag racing you just power shift it, no clutch, thats what the pros do, but for curves heal to toe is just double clutching, it makes a smoother transition (as stated above) and also puts less stress on the drivetrain then just regular down shifting.

Why does this site have so many people on it that refuse to read? Have you guys even read the rest of the thread? Double clutching is completely different than heel-toe shifting. Good lord people, educate yourselves.

Ditto.

And why the hell are people bringing up double clutching? Its primary use died out about 40 years ago.

Maybe there are a bunch of future truckers on the forum.
