I am 17 years old and i have a 1987 mustang gt cobra 5.0, its a good car and fun to drive but im looking to get rid of it because its not the best winter car and its not the best on gas lol. I seen this add and dont know a lot about this car and hope some of u guys do. i alwayse liked 240sx and 180sx but never seen a 180sx for sale in canada.
NISSAN 200 SX / 180 SX TURBO 1989 1989 NISSAN 200 SX / 180 SX TURBO, upgraded turbo and engine, 93,000 kms, fully loaded, right hand drive Jap import. If any one knows the differnce between a 200sx and 180sx could u let me know, is it the 180sx is a 1.8L and the 200sx is a 2.0L? Why this add would say 200sx / 180sx. Does any one know what type of engine it would have KA, CA, or SR, and whats the main differnce between the 3 types? Whats the best engine and why? Would that be a good car to get or would a 240sx be better and whats the differnce between them? If any one know a little about this it would help me out alot for your information. If ther is any thing i should know that i didnt ask plese tell me. ps I know 180sx are good for drifting but is the 1989 a good year for drifting and whats a good year for the 240sx? thanks |

The 240SX is the American name for the 180SX, if I remember correctly. The fastback versions are pretty much identical... and any year is good for drifting if you got enough cash, but good luck drifting it stock there. You'll need a ton more horsepower, and maybe some driver's training. So what you'll be buying will be a 240SX just right hand drive, with a turbo engine in it. I think it's a good deal, depending on price. You should go for it, but your insurance is gonna bite, though I don't know if it'll be more than the Mustang.
Edit: I believe the engine, if it is the turbo type, will be SR20DET, confirm/deny?

240sx gas milage is like 21city 27 hwy. If your not too keen on driving in winter with mustang then there is no difference with 240 because its rear wheel drive. If you want looks just go with probe it kinda looks like the 94 240(salesman told me that wtf man i said 240 not mazda/ford car) . The name 200sx is mostly used in Austrilia and UK for the silvia model and 180sx.
the difference between the three engine is displacement, asperation , design. when you say best engine its hard to pick because all the engine have its own unique style but to those who want power and large selection of aftermarket parts would be sr20det. 180sx came with ca18det from 88-90 91+ had sr20det 240sx came with ka24e from 89-90 91+ had ka24de. (I consider it a truck engine not a sport engine) Gas mileage sucks when the 240 AIV is mess when I bought my first 89 240sx the car gave me 20L 100km. Thank god for the accident, now i own 79 datsun 510/a10 and non-running 91 black hopefully im getting the sr20det in december after i do the body work, homemade fiberglass mods and find stuff like seats reinforcement and rims to replace the mazda rims. i disagree about drifting in a stock 240sx. i dont know why people think that drifting is only what you see d1 and such drivers doing . drifting is doing donuts or powersliding, it might not be as impressive but none the less it is drifting.
im not a KA24 fan by any means but the engine isnt that bad. it was put in more cars than trucks. the reason it is referred to as a "truck" engine is because the way it was tuned i.e alot of torque with very little top end! when you boost a KA you end up with more HP and torque than a stock sr20 or ca18 makes. but im partial to the sr20 because of the availability of parts and strength of the stock internals. with a good headgasket and studs you can run max boost from the stock turbo all day long with no worries as long as you have an upgraded radiator and good IC! blah blah blah im rambling but any question just hit me up! if i dont know the answer i can direct you to some good places to find them! I know Nisan sold a 200SX that wasn't a Silvia. They sold it in the States and it was essentially a Sentra coupe. I don't know for certain about the 180SX/240SX difference though, although, I also want a 240SX. I want a 98 model or around then. One of the late model ones. I love the look and that they're rear wheel drive. I don't like the idea of FWD performance cars...It weirds me out...
