here i sit, grease covered hands, trying to make a decision. i if anyone knows 240s, then they know about the "timing chain rattle" i have the valve cover off, the front upper cover off. both timing guides off ( like every forum says to do to fix the rattle), but down in the engine behind the lower front cover (which i cant readily access), i see a busted piece of an old guide flopping around. no one ever touches on htis particular guide being an issue. do i need to remove this broken peice? its only plastic, how much noise could it possibly make? i would like to know before i put everything back together, so i dont have to do this again tommorow- its around 4 o clock eastern, i wait till 5 for some kind of help, thn just hope for the best nd put it all back together. thx

^ anything that is NOT supposed to be there should be removed. If they make a double roller timing chain for your 240, get it, it is a much tighter type of set up and should not rattle. Most rattle because of bad timing gear sets and that causes the timing chain to rattle up against the cover.
