MAF Sensor

well my car has been idling a bit wild sometimes and wants to die (the 300zx)

my friend was checking out my car and said right away after i started it that it sounds/feels like i need to clean my MAF sensor....


so we popped my hood and he showed me what he believed was my MAF sensor and said i should take it off and spray it with some carb cleaner or something





so is it a good idea to spray it with some carb cleaner or go out and buy the actual cleaner crap?

they sell maf cleaner at autozone and places like that, spray it in but dont do to much at once, mafs tend to be sensitive of what u put in them

you can use a carb cleaner....a brake cleaner...but I would actually go to a stereo store and get electronics cleaner. Spray the maf w/ it, DO NOT touch the maf wires, let it air dry completely and then re-install it. Never touch the maf wires.

Check/replace your hoses and make sure clamps, nuts, etc. are tight too.

ive used contact cleaner before, works too

what year 300zx is it, the Z32 AFM are fukin sweet

does it look like this? (black thing with orange/red sticker)

mine is a Z31 (1985)


here is two pics i took of what i believe my MAF sensor to be, which are both on the intake piping, although one is closer than the other

i thinks it is the first one, which is gonna be a ***** to get off lol

so have u tired taking it off and cleaning it yet?

also those pipes sometimes they can come lose make sure their on and tighten the clamps, but from what i can see it looks like its on fairly tight hahaha.

if non of this works you may have to try other things, does the car only run shit on idle or does it behave weird when throttle is applied too, sometimes spark plugs and the leads need replacing too, it will missfire

actually it is running beautifully right now lol....all i did was take off the air filter and pressure spray it with an air compressor and thats about it lol




when i did have the problem, it was only at idle, not when trottle was applied....
