Default new exhaust question

hey i drive a 2005 se-r spec v and i was just at a master muffler wonderin on pricing for a full exhaust would be and the guy said i would get 25 horse out of it... i have a hard time believing that from a exhaust he also asked if i had a cold air so im wondering if hes saying that my exhaust+cold air would equal 25 horse to the crank.. but also we know that cold air and exhaust really help each other so maybe it would be additional power on top of what im getting with the cold air. i really need to know cause if i do get that much gain ill get that but my friends gf is selling her greddy's for 3 bills so damn good price.

so basically is it 25 horse with the cold air and the exhaust or is it 25 horse plus whatever i get with the cold air.

THANK GUYS

well, on a motor making 175 at the crack according the nissan i doubt an exhaust and intake would get you more than 15 unless you did headers and straight pipes plus a tune but thats just talk from general knowledge. I have no idea how restrictive the intake/exhaust systems are on those things or how well the engines take to mods.

And besides, why are you worried about HP to the crank?

a good rule of thumb is, if some thing is advertised as " gives an extra 10hp" you divide the number in half and subtract 2. So, half of 10 would be 5, subtract 2, is 3hp to the wheels. So.....IF that guy is correct about a full headerback exhaust giving you 25hp, half of that would be 12.5, subtract 2 would be 10.5, which on a 4cyl sounds about right.

Example: when my car had just a catback on it, it advertised a gain of 20hp, half of which is 10, subtract 2 is 8......when I went to re-dyno to see what I picked up, I gained 8.8rwhp. So that equation is almost dead on.

By full exhaust do you meant header or just catback? 25 is probably overstated. Since you are doing some exhaust work, another thing you should definitely do is delete the pre-cat. A lot of SE-R's are having engine problems due to faulty cats; they break up and due to their close proximity to the motor, pieces of debris are being drawn into the motor and scoring the piston bores (explaining why a lot of se-r's have high oil consumption).

+1

I just completely delete cats :P

Se'r's have alot of problems because people tend to drive em like civics and redlining them all the time, and its not an engine designed for high high revs...

Turbo that Mofo :P

^ it's not a bad sport compact tuner car, you just need to do A LOT of research and get the right parts for the best price before buying any ol' garbage parts. You get what you pay for, you gotta pay to play. Do it right and it will return the favor.
