Ok so originally i ****ed with my distributer which caused me to have to take my car into the shop to fix my timing or w/e. A week after taking it to the shop im driving down the road and my car is running funny, real bad sounding and jerky. So mechanics say my fuel injecters have gone bad. Eventually my car gets to the point where when im idleing its really jerky and sometimes while im driving and I'll push in my clutch and let my RPM drop and it just shuts off or drops to about 500rmp and is really jerky. So i replace my fuel injecters and the car sitll does the same thing. But now its gotten to the point where its hard to start the car and makes a horrible puttering sound. Everyone i've asked suggests my fuel pump may be going bad. anyone have any ideas?

Dont waste money throwing parts at the car on a guess:
Get a fuel pressure gauge, tape it to the windshield, and monitor what the pressure is like at idle and while driving. If its below the specs for your car, the fuel pump may indeed be the culprit. Quote:

Unfortunately it could also be much worse... when you messed with the distributor did you advance or retard the timing? If you advanced it too much and caused detonation you could have very easily damaged the rings/ring landings which will cause poor compression and lots of blow through which has many symptoms. One of which can be poor idle and hard starting. The KA is a tough motor so hopefully that's not the case, but you might want to throw a compression tester on there and see what kind of numbers you get from it. Good luck.

Was the car running ok before you f@cked with it??
Maybe just the timing out, should be able to check it easy enough. I doubt whether the fuel pump is on the way out tho, normally they work fine then bang, nothing. maybe fuel pump relay if its fuel related? Id say more than likely timing! Good luck ![]() |
