Default wheel offset

How important is it? I read on vwvortex in a few places that if the offset on aftermarket wheels is different from the stock offset it can cause the suspension to wear out quickly even if the tires don't rub. I emailed tirerack and they of course said 'any wheel we sell will fit with no issues.' So does the offset matter that much?

its really important specially if the offset is smaller than what you should have, your rims might rub inside in tight turns which cannot be good. That why you usually would need spacers... The offset difference is bigger im not sure but i doubt it could cause problems, as you can put spacers up to 25mm on a car to make the wheels pop out a little. How much extra space are you looking for?

I think that tire rack means that they already figure the required offset into the wheels.

yes, offset matters...A LOT. Let the rim company set the offset for you according to the specific car.

I just checked tire rack's site and when you choose the wheel it tells you the offset, so it's already figured out for you.

Thanks for the help, maybe I read the vortex posts wrong or maybe they're just Dbags like in the mk4 forums.
