If you just want a reliable daily driver, the mazda is a pretty good bet. My sister had a 93, which was my hand me down, that has well over 200k on the clock. It still has the original clutch despite beating the living crap out of it (even took it to a couple of track days lol). Engine is still fine etc. But the car has since been retired as a result of rust issues on the shock tower. I would assume that the 2003's have improved leaps and bounds over that POS she had.
You should be able to find one for less than 12k. Among the other choices suggested by others, I would go with the maxima.
