I was driving my mom's 2002 vitara and the break light came on. So I pull to the side and checked the break fluid level and it was a bit low, so I added to the full mark. The light didn't turn off. I doubt that the pads are worn, I don't know why is doing that.

emergency break? you shouldn't top up the fluid in the break res, when you change the breaks next time the extra fluid will pour out and make a mess. when the light goes on cause the fluid is low it's cause you need to do your breaks.
