So I just swapped my fuel pump on my POS samurai out, and it's worse then before. Before my $75 replacement, the truck would run for a couple minutes until the choke opened and then sputter and die. Now it cranks and if I spray starting fluid in it'll run for a few seconds, but once the alcohol burns off it dies. I followed exactly what my Haynes manual said to do, but it doesn't work, is there some way to prime the motor like my lawnmower (about the same HP, maybe I should just do a swap) Should I bleed the fuel system?
HELP MEEEEEEEEEEE!

I put it on with the paper gasket that came with it (it's in the engine bay, not in the tank) I'm thinking now that when I can finally get to it again I'll try and bleed the system and if that doesn't work I'll replace all the fuel lines.
There's a company that'll install a 350 for 6 grand in the little guy, but I would never want to go fast in it, I'd be too afraid of flipping over.

first is it new or used?
second if it's new, pull off the fuel line at the carb{i'm assuming it's carb} and see if fuel flows when you crank. third if no fuel comes when you crank take the supply line off the pump and pressurize the gas tank and see if the fuel comes from the tank. repete this step with the line attached to see if there is a leak in the line itself, if there is a pin hole it will stop flow enough to stop it from running. here is what i feel, maybe you got a bad pump, it happens. and the fact you said it ran fine with the choke on it might be a carb problem not pump. if your getting fuel to the carb it should run.

i looked at a pic and it looks like it doesn't have a push rod, runs off a lob without a push rod. but i'm only looking at a pic, but if it had a rod it would of gotten in your way while installing the new one.
did you check for fuel yet?
