Default insurablility and legality

I have decided that I am going to start build on a Lotus "7" type car, aka the Locust. building it isn't so much the problem as the issue of insuring it for the road and passing inspection. The only thing really that I am going to buy pre-fabricated would be the frame, and the appropriate suspension components, the rest I would fabricate/tinker with from scratch. I live in Florida, and I know that each state has its own regulations on this type of project, but the goal here is to be able to drive it on the street and take it to the track, not just a track car.
