Question I need help with the wheels

I want to paint the rims in my mother's cars because we had a little problem with the brakes. Long story short, they need paint. I already got the paint and I forgot to buy the masking tape, but I need help deciding what kind of sandpaper to used. I was thinking 55 or 35 grid but I don't really don't know what kind to use. The rims are plain stock of a 2002 Vitara. I will try to put some pics tomorow so that you guys can have a better a idea.
Thanks.

let me guess, lug nuts were seized........

how would you like them to look at the end? if you want them to look ok start with a 100 then finish off with a 320, spray paint will hide some small scratches but not the deep ones. and make sure you have none of the burn paint left the paint will react badly to it.

you use one of these brushes for a drill to make it go faster, and you can most of the time get these in a set so you can end up with a smooth finish
i use these all the time . You can also use extra filling primer if you have deep scratches or so. but get a paint that is heat resistant(primer too).
i always use the red one===> as it is precise and doesent ruff up your surface yet rips whatever isnt metal the hell off.

another trick instead of masking the entire tire is : two sided tape along the rim and saran wrap!

Looks great, now all you need to do is tint the windows a bit, and remove the pinstripe over the door handles :P

j/k, nice work!
