Hey all,
Just had my 1987 Mustang GT 5-speed dynoed after a bunch of work- 306 keith craft, federal mogul pistons, AFR heads, roller rockers, bbk long tubes, bassani x-pipe, flowmaster cat-back, C&L intake, 75mm MAF, 70mm throttle body, 24lb inj, cam, edelbrock upper and lower, and full Accel ignition. Grand total after chip and "dyno tune"...291 rwhp!? That just seems low to me. Anybody have any insight into this? Car runs great, but I thought there was more there after all the mods. What can I do to eek some more out of her? timing? Thanks, Carl |

thats the first year for efi......right?
well, the 55.0's didnt have the mass air sensor(i think) till 88' in california or 89' in all the other places so you might want to invest in that and remember that is to the wheels right? a lot of cars base their power like in commercials and ads from the crank (i think?) so that really isnt a bad number did you get the torque it is probably way up there |

Thats not tooo bad but here's a few questions.
1. How much timing and wut type of fuel did you run? 2. what was the AF 3. What kinda Torque did you pull on that run? rememeber HP isnt everything. Ive seen FOX's fun low-mid 12 all day with just 275 RWHP..

The car does have a MAF sensor, 75mm. It had 315 or so rwtq on that final pull. I was running 93 octane, but i really think we pulled it back to TDC on the timing. Any further thoughts? Thanks for all the replies so far! Air/fuel was like 13.1

didn't shaggy pull up all the stats on stock 5.0s on a different thread? and i think it said hp was like 150 or 175, which means the whp would be like 100 to 125 so 291 means u pumped out 160 to 180 hp out of the engine. thats a lot of motor when u think about it. i'd find out the stock hp.

the same happened to me on my 1987 corvette. there is a lot of work that i've done and the previous owner have done and it is still nothing compared to a lot of newer cars with higher curves and hp ratings.

my bad, i was looking at early 80s and late 70s. this is the site i found for a 1987 it says 225 hp, probably at the crank.
so that doesn't really help at all as to why those numbers are low.http://www.jason.fletcher.net/tech/s...ons/specs2.htm
