Im starting to prepare to do a intake manifold swap on my XJ similar to the one in this link http://www.go.jeep-xj.info/HowtoIntakeManifold1.htm ive got the new intake striped down but there is alot od carbon built up inside the intake runners, what should i use to remove all the carbon? Its a aluminim intake and i dont wanna ruin it.

When I was running the shop we use to bake them in a oven at really high temps. It dries out the carbon build up (and smokes like crazy). When the smoke stops let it burn a while longer. Then after a LONG cool down use a stiff brush or (and carb cleaner not brake cleaner) to clean it out. Also you can use a rubber mallet and gently tap it all loose (it should just crumble and fall out).
Or, better yet install it the way it is and run some sand through it for awhile. That should clean it right up. ![]()
