Default 1968 Mustang Help

Hey

My first car that i have is a 68 Mustang Coupe. It is a v8 302 c4. I am currently learning more about my car, but i would like to know if anyone has any kind of help to make my acceleration or torque much better because it lacks in that. So far all i have done is the exhaust with Flowmaster 40series and a xpipe, but i would like to increase my speed/acceleration and torque.

So any help would be great Thx

If you want small gains for cheap price get a intake.

If you want good gains on a kind of high price get a good head/cam package

Might want to get nitrous oxide if your wanting about 50-100hp on tap

like he said, but if you get an intake you won't notice a differance.

oh and change the gear in the diff, and a higher stall torque.

Like stated the power is in the heads intake and cam. Now you can do this the cheaper way. or you can go all out.

Were i am i can get a 302 From a late 80's mustang for about $300 thats 225Hp 300LB Torque. or you can just grab the heads.

Higher flow heads. the 1994 Explorer 302 came with GT40 Heads Stock the 1996+ came with GT40 P Heads they need different headers they flow alot better then stock late 80"s Mustang heads

Or you can go all out on a set of aluminum Heads that Flow Nice and are Light.

Default Suggestion

I myself have a '68 Coupe w/302 c4 but i added a 9" with 3.89 gears and it makes enough torque to throw the car sideways shifting from 1st to second the car has a few other tweaks done to it but no nos,no blower just straight motor

Ford Motorsports makes a whole grip of performance parts for 5L engines. Go to your local Ford dealer and grab a catalog.

Aftermarket manufacturers who seem to specialize in Ford performance off the top of my head:

TrickFlow Specialties(TFS): cylinder heads
Air Flow Research(AFR): cylinder heads
Comp Cams: camshafts
Edelbrock: intake manifolds, cylinder heads and anything else you can think of
Borla: exhaust

What you really need to do is join some Ford performance clubs online, pick up some magazines and get as many catalogs as you can and read, read, read! The 302 is almost as common as the sbC and is fairly easy to wrench on and parts are easy to come by. Like everyone else has said, the main areas to concentrate on are the cam, heads, intake and exhaust- remember your engine is nothing more than an air pump aided by combustion. Ask questions, do your homework and make the right decisions. Good luck with your hop-up.

I'm a diehard GM/sbC guy and I can't believe I just offered help to a Ford newb. I need to go take a shower now- I feel...dirty.
