Default Jeep head gasket

anyone ever had to replace a jeep 4.0L head gasket? i think my girlfriend just blew. i was wondering how much it might cost at a shop and how hard it is to do myself. the jeep is losing coolant but no leaks. the oil looks fine too but there is water coming from the exhaust on startup but that is kind of normal runs fine otherwise, no misfires or rough idle. how can i be sure of a blown head gasket without using a Hydrocarbon sniffer in the radiator? any other ideas? i dont really want to deal with it but if it costs over $500 at a shop i think i will just do it for her just want to be sure if i do it myself. oh yeah why cant i find any labor times on the net wtf?

to check for a head gasket look for foam/bubbles in the rad. or smell fumes comming from the tailpipe.

yeah starting to think i was just being paranoid about the bubbles, probably just air bleeding out of the cooling system after i filled it up. shes drove it about 100 miles now since the last time i filled up the radiator and its not overheating yet. i think that if i can go this whole week without opening the hood then i will call it reliable again. gotta love the old school design of those jeeps, seems like anyone can work on them, and even though i am a mercedes tech, some cars still intimidate me.

no, i was referring to some cars that i dont know SH%T about when i said some cars still intimdate me (Prius, insight, and some other new age econoboxes) and if you read the beginning of that post i said that i love jeeps because they are still easy and simple to work on. i guess i confused you with that... sorry.
anyways now that i have decided that the jeep is fine i pulled the 400 out of my nova today and i think it ate the bearings... damn it! :banghead: well i will have some vids as soon as it moves again. shouldnt be too long.
