Here are a few links i found on the subject. From what i gather, it doesn't help much with general daily driving, but on the track or blasting around on the back roads it can be helpful.

Actual double-clutching was used for old cars and big rigs without synchronizers. It is literally a useless skill now. The only thing you need to retain from it is the ability to match revs--which is not double clutching. Heel/toeing is a step above rev-matching.
