Default Radiator Stop Leak products.

my radiator is leaking and i don't feel like spending 100 bucks to replace it, i also don't want to get one from the junkyard cause i've had bad experiences before. my question is about radiator leak stoping products like this one:
http://www.acehardware.com/sm-master...i-1452129.html
or any other for that matter. are any of them good? i've heard they can cause other problems and i sure as hell don't want that.
thanks.

i used StopLeak in the Mini for a few pinhole leaks, worked fine. for anything large it wont work, maybe drain it and use some steel epoxy. for pinhole leaks you shouldnt have any problems, so long as you dont use too much

Well the cheapest way I can think of fixing it would be locate the crack might have to take it out. And try some JB Weld you can pick it up at almost any auto parts store(never thought Id say that) but we are talking cheap here. I would never use products like that , think about where its circulating through !

Actually , look at the ingredients on the little vial of Stop leak powder. If you gently shake the little vial to seperate the two powders. One of them is kinda copper colored and is the glue, when disolved in hot water, the other powder is pepper.

Yes I know but time sets in and normally this stuff is what causes water pumps to seeze or cloag also water jackets from the copper building up big enough through the circulating of the engine. I doubt it not working but common sense should tell you that eventually metal clinging on due to heat is going to flake off when cold and circulate around. The black pepper trick Ive known that as well and does work incase of a emergency on a small leak but not over a long period of time (not fixing the crack)I would either stay with nismoron on this use black pepper when you can (less damage inside) or the JB weld for a better seal.

I'm with NX458, you should get it repaired properly, but to get you around for a week or so, try about a half teaspoon of it.

PS. I wonder who the first idiot to find this was thinking... Hmm I think I dump some pepper in my radiator. Might have even been the same guy that found tht you hallucinate if you like some species of toad...

I used a little tube of some stop leak that cost 4 dollars at the CSK chain. It seemed like a big hole, and the stuff works great, that was maybe a year ago. Like an idiot i tried to pour it in with the radiator full thinking it would all sink. It dont! :loser1:

all right I raised the car up and the radiator and hoses are not leaking at all, it seems its the water pump. it was leaking a lot right down the middle of the engine and i could see some water splash around everywhere because of all the rotating bands. At least its not as expensive as a new radiator. harder to replace though.

The Pepper tricks works extremely well, if the cracks or holes are not too big...
Egg white and Pepper are a great trick also

( GROUND PEPPER YOU FOOLZ and put about a shaker full)

I've used pepper before and agree that it does work very well! I probably wouldn't use it on something worth a lot to me though. I don't know if its available outside of Australia, but "Bars stop leak" is pretty awesome stuff. I've seen a mates cracked cylinder head come off the motor after about a year of driving with Bars in it, and the cracks were blocked with the stuff!

When the radiator leaks and hits the fans it splashes everywhere, be careful when think it is coming from somewhere else. Start the car and watch the top tank and look for coolant starting to come out (2 minutes).
