Question STS - Remote Turbos

Hi all,

Just wondering if any of you guys/girls have on of the STS remote turbo setups on your car/s?

I am familiar with their website and have read some articles about the setup in US mags (there is nothing like it over here in Australia).
I am just wanting a little more info on the sizing of the turbos they use as I am setting up a ute (pickup) with a remote turbo.

Cheers all
Void

From what I've seen on the net, they are not the best setup to use.
They seem to be alot slower then what you would expect. There are a few vids on this site with differant vehicles using this setup.

If your looking to do a turbo setup for your truck then id check out:

Cheers mate,
I have everything needed to do the usual location but I am heaps interested in the whole remote setup.
There are a whole heap of people saying the sts setup can't work but it seems to me that it can/does... not that I have ever built or experienced a car with it. I'm just trying to get as much info about remote mounting as I can cause it is so different and simple to do.

Again, thanks for the links - I'll go have a read....

It certainly can work...it just will never be as effective or efficient as a normal turbo setup.

If you want to go for a turbo in an LS1 i wouldnt go with the STS (although i have driven in one, a Camaro, and in 6th gear at roughly 65 mph it spun the rears a lil bit) I would much rather go with a big turbo kit from LS1 motorsports

I dont know a lot about the sts turbo system. But it seems to me that they would have to run a larger than normal turbine and a smaller compressor ....they have had to tweak that system's turbo somehow. I think thats why they limit their products boost level to 8psi. As long as their is no leaks, the exhaust pressure should be the same, it just takes longer to get to the very back of the vehicle.

Then again, because the turbo is remote mounted, temperatures are usually 500 degrees (Fahrenheit) lower than what a normal turbo is putting out. Its got its advantages/disadvantages same as any other kit.
