Was he ever a driver? I think he was only a rally co-driver.

No, just co-pilot. But he was good. He race with Toivonen in the Sunbeam Lotus back in the early 80´s.

From watching the english version I believe Jean Todt was the team manager in that clip, not driver or co-driver
