Carlos was not only good at driving but he was excellent at strategic race planning, like slowing down on certain stages in order to come 2nd or 3rd so that the guys that would go before him could "clean" the road and get rid of that loose top gravel so that he could go and make a killer time. He’s not called “El Matador” for no reason. I got his autograph in a marlboro shirt in the 1994 Rally of Portugal.
