ok, i made this tut for the ppl that might be having some trouble changing the paint color of a car in photoshop...and just a pretty simple and fast way to change the color

open the car you want to chop in ps

select the entire car except the tire/wheels using the lasso toolVVV

now still using the lasso tool, hold alt and deselect the windows/lights/etc._notice the lasso now has a - after holding alt VVV

now go to image>adjustments>desaturate VVV

now go to image>adjustments>variationsVVV

here you can easily change the color with a few clicks (just click blue a bunch of times with a little green if you want as example) and then to the right, you can darken or lighten up paintjobVVV

here is a few example that i did to show you guysVVV





and remember, if you dont like the outcome of the color, just press control/alt/Z at the same time to go back to the desaturated part or 2 times to go back to the original color

then to start over and make a new color, desat or go to variations again and do thisVVVV

click the "original" like above and then click the colors you want



and you can also do this b4 u start changing the colors......when you have the car selected (paint only), and still have the lasso tool out, right click over the car and select "layer via copy" to make a copy of only the paint.......then you can have a bunch of different color layers to switch through after you change the color of each layer to find the color you like best

Nice one HKS i shall sticky. Another good way is instead of going with variations is going to photo filter and going through those. Turn the bar all the way up

i tend to flip paint my cars by using same method but using gradient tool and some blending

ther are lots of ways in wich to change the colour..

the one I use.. is making a copy of the car.. just the parts i want to change the color.

then i use three option.. not always the three of them..


these are..

Hue/Saturation

Brightness/Contrast

Color balance.


I find these tools usefull and have preety good result..

Thanks Evo! I finally know how to change the car's color. Memphis replied to my post, but it was difficult for me to understand it without the actual pictures. No offense to him at all. He's explanation is really helpful, it's just that I wasn't sure which tools were which. LoL. Thanks to both of you. Memphis & Evo.

here is one for lowering your car...


select around the bottom or your car and the entire upper background of the picture like so using the lasso tool like so VVVVV

now right click over the car and make a new layer VVVV

now make sure you have the new layer selected in the Layers box, now move that layer down till you like how low it is VVVVV

to make it even cleaner, crop the image from the bottom, till the upper part where it is now a "double" image like so...using the crop tool VVVV


you might have to select the layer behind and paint it black in some spots like by the wheelwell because you will be able to see some of the image

Heres some pics of how i do it sometimes its the same as HKS's up to the desaturation after that is show below

I usually cycle through them all just to see which ones i like notice I have the bar all the way up. Sometimes with lumonosity off it give u a nice color to blend with the original


and here that blue body layer with the multiply blending (and a couple tweaks i cant remember lol)
