im not too sure what engines you guys get but, if you can, get an s14a which comes with the sr20det (2.0i 16v turbo) engine as standard. if youre after an s13 get the ca18det (1.8 16v turbo)
as its nissan, they pretty much last forever if you look after them, so 100k is ok. look on www.sxoc.co.uk for all the info you will need. |

All S13's and S14's here in the states have KA24's of one type or another. If you find one with an SR or CA, it has been converted and you will pay big $$$ for it.
![]() 89-90 have KA24E = single cam 91+ have KA24DE = Twin cam. the twin cam motors are a little better. ![]() The mileage is unimportant. Mine has 183,00 miles and looks and runs like a new one. New pics of the RB20 240sx My wife had one that had 220,000 when we sold it. And it was fine too. What to look out for is timing chain rattle on startup. If you hear some clattering at startup- and then goes away after oil pressure builds up (1-3 secs) then it my need a new chain soon. If it also chatters a little at idle (easy to hear ar a drive though window or parked next to a wall with the window down) then it will need one pretty soon. The single cam timing chains are cheap and easier to replace. The twin cam chains are VERY expensive and a pain in the butt to replace. But the twin cam is overall a better motor. You can get one and do an engine swap as well. We buy them and swap all the time. You can get CA18DET (fits 89-90 best) SR20DET restop (fits 91-94 best) SR20DET blacktop (fits 95-98 best) or like me and get a RB20DET or RB25DET Skyline engine (very easy swap) You can fit any of the above engines into any of the cars, but the wiring harnesses will be more similar architecture if you follow the above listed years/motors. As far as anything else to look for... They are the same as any car. Look for the obvious things. and the CONDITION of the car is most important. You can get a crp one for $500 or a really nice S14 may run 6000-7000 bucks. Also look at what wheels you may want to buy. Look at the lug pattern. All S13's and most S14's are 4x114.3 The S14 SE has a 5x114.3 pattern. Some whhels are not available in both patterns. For the 4 lug cars you can do a five lug conversion. Not hard, just a little pricey for the parts. Last edited by nismoron; 01 Feb 2005 at 10:24 am. |

Yes it fits fine. It is just a little (very little ) easier to fit th CA18... only about 5-10 minutes worth more wiring involved. No big deal. Also the RB20DET will fit in very easily, cost hlf as much and walk on an SR in a race (mod for mod). |

Which one is best depends on how much money you plan to spend... And how you plan to drive it...
The SR redtop has the better flowing head and will make more power in the end when modded. Especially if you upgrade the turbo. The SR blacktop has a little better turbo stock, biut does not have as good of a head. If you are leaving it stock, this is the way to go. What do you want to know about the RB20DET? It costs about half as much as the SR and mod for mod will outperform the SR. It also doesn't have the valvetrain falling apart problems like the SR. I'm about to walk out the door, to participate the drift event in Atlanta this weekend. I'll be back some time Sunday |
