I have a 93 lx Mustang. I just purchased a 5.0 e303 gt40X head 340hp Ford Crate engine and its installed. I went to the track last week and was very dissapointed in my times. The best I ran was 13.5 @104 with a 2.03 60'. Last year I ran a 13.8 @99 or 100mph with my original 5.0 with boltons. In addtion to the stock motor was new Nitto 555r and a new h/d trac loc diff and 31 spline moser axels. I was hoping to be in the 12's with this set up. Do you think I need this car Dyno tuned? Do I need a new computer? I just cant imagine I went from a 225hp engine less bolton to a 340hp engine and its not a ton quicker.Shouldnt I be able to smoke the tires in 2nd gear?? I have a cobra intake on my engine and Im wondering if its robbing power? Should I go with the edelbrock intake or is the cobra good enough. I have the timing set @ 14deg and fuel pressure is set about 38lbs. Ford racing told me to use 30lb injectors but the people who installed the enigine disagreed and used 24lb. Could this be a problem?? Im sure the amount of fuel in different if Im using 24# injector @ 38lb fuel compared to using 30lb inj. with 38lb fuel press. right? I need help!!!! My bolts on extensive. 76mm C&L mass air 70mm throttle body, underdrives 3:73 gears, Alumin. drive shaft, elec fan, moser 31 spline axles, boxed rear upper and lower control arms, Steeda sport lowing springs(which I know dont help with drag racing) Cobra intake, shortie headers, highflow cats with X pipe, Magnaflow cat back, MSD coil, K&N cold air intake. This car should be in the 12's in my opinion. What do you think??
Sorry, I know this is long but I did not want to not leave anything out Thanks |

you need to get it tuned, i was running 46 psi fuel pressure, and a hell of alot more timing on my stock bottom trickflow toped motor, never tracked it but it was a big difference over stock.
is the maf set for the 24 pounders? what fuel pump are you running? |

yes i really need it tuned. So you think an increase in fuel and timing could make quite a diff.?
yes the maf is calibr for 24# 255 on the fuel pump. I know I need more seat time, but I thought with that much extra power I would really feel so much more power.. Thanks guys |

just on a stock 5L if you bump the timing a few degrees from where ford left it makes a difference. you need a tune, a better 60' would be nice but the tune is what your missing.
if you are capable, bump the fuel pressure to 40 and advance the timing a few degrees at a time, if you have some free track time to test your changes or go by the seat of the pants dyno aka adjust till it pulls hard, or a real dyno if you want. |

I know my 60' times sucked. I didnt heat the tires. I only did a small dry burnout. I was trying to launch at different rpms. I started out at 3000 then jumped to 3500 (severe tire spin) then back to 3000 rpm's I want to get the tune and heat the tires in the water and see what happens.
Thanks for the info |
