yeah. the exhaust welds are pretty good with no leaks but the intake i rushed because i was running out of rod. I went back and fixed it already with an arc welder(much better). It ran alsome and boosted with little lag and everything worked great for awhile.
THEN...........the inevitable happened:banghead:. I should of put my head back together with a copper or MLS head gasket but at the time i wasn't planning on turbo'ing it so I went with a fel-pro stock one. :banghead: And the head gasket blew. I just finished pulling it all apart again tonight and found that cylinder number 2 went but I checked everything and nothing was hurt.(shut it down right away after it went)So, I am ordering a new gasket tommorrow and I should have it 100% done, except the hood, by this weekend. I did some painting and polishing here and there and made everything look pretty:thumpup: Just an update. p.s.my track opens april 7th and after that, i should have a video. |

How does the carb handle boost? Or how did you modify it other than the turbonetics airbox?
I've always read a push through turbo carb setup are hard since you gotta adjust fuel pressure to account for the extra air pressure. Awesome setup BTW. I'd love to do something similar to a RWD celica since they are so damn cheap and have the 2xR engines in them.

Actually, I called Holley and they told me that it was designed to be pressurized for a turbo or supercharger. SO, I basically did nothing with the carb except some adjustments here and there. I also have to put on an electric fuel pump too because the fuel bowl runs dry after 2nd gear but thats not really an issue. If you do put one on a celica, i defineately want to see it!

Well i finished right in at $500 before the new head gasket. So adding the new gasket and the $500, puts me right in around $750.:thumb:
Pretty good investment I think. I do think when i get time that i am going to put in an intercooler for those hot days. Chris |

With my carb turbo setup I used a malpassi rising rate reg that keeps fuel pressure above boost pressure. ie 4psi fuel pressure at idle/vaccuum and say 24psi fuel pressure at 20psi boost. Instead of boxing the carb, mine was modified with pressure lines to the float bowl.
Good to see someone actually having a go at doing things themselves rather than spending a fortune at a workshop. ps bov's and carbs normally won't work well together- the bov upsets the airflow & since a carb needs airflow to meter fuel to engine, a bov can (every time I have seen anyway) cause a flat spot between gears. Don't worry about turbo damage either- I ran 14psi for ~1 year and 19psi for the 2nd year/ daily driven and my turbo is still like new. I'll have to get you some pics of my mates 22re turbo Celica once he has it together. His being efi rather than carb, thus the 'e'. He's got the engine in and together, just needs to finish the manifolding. Again, awesome job!
