Now, as any of us know....the 4.3L v6 that comes in the Chevy Silverado isn't very stout at all. Then, put it into a truck that has an extended cab, and it's just down right fugly in the performance dept.
I have recently acquired a turbo from a friend that owed me some cash. I opted to take the turbo, because I could either use it, or just ebay it for a nice chunk of cash. My quandry is: How much boost could I put into this crap-trap 4.3L without it grenading? I'm thinkin this thing will put out maybe 7-10 psi w/o a problem. specs of turbo: T04E 3 inch in/2 inch out .57 wheel trim .50 compressor .63 A/R Turbine Think this would work out? or...am I pissin in the wind and just need to sell it? I've also got alot of the parts leftover from my SHO when we spooled it. IC, piping, hangers, mounts/clamps, BOV (absolutely crap-tacular), and other lines/hoses/vaccuum parts. You guys seem sharp on this stuff, and I just wanna toss this idea around to see what can come of it.

The cost of the turbo itself is just a drop in the bucket compared to the costs of developing a reliable turbo system. Even with solid fabrication skills, the cost of the manifolds, piping, intercooling, fuel enrichment specific to your truck is going to cost a small fortune.

umm.. correct me if I'm wrong..
but the Z31 300ZX and the Buick Grand National were BOTH turbocharged V6's.. SINGLE turbo'd V6's

Correct me if Im wrong, wouldnt a turbo V8 make more power than a turbo V6? ... That is the question.

um, actually.....that's not the question Hyper. I was asking if it would make enough of a difference to just go for it with my v6 that's existing in my truck. And to make it clear, no...I'm not trading a v8 into it. I'll just keep the v6, but wanted to check out some power adders.
I'm still thinking about it honestly. I've got alot of the stuff I'll need just to fab it all up. It'll take a bit, but....I may end up just doing it because it's available.

I think stock it came out with the 4L60E, which is still in it. It's good for around 360 #'s of Torque, and the 4.3L in stock form only puts out 260 #'s of Torque. So, even if it only added 60 hp's at the wheels, I think I'd be right there where the threshhold is as far as that goes.
