I've had the pleasure of working on someone's house here in the Houston area. This is probably the smartest "smart home" I've ever worked in.
All resources are constantly monitored and levels throughout the home are trimmed to fit his 'projected schedule'. Meaning - all lighting in the rooms only goes to 96%, versus 100% (where they're not nearly as efficient and the bulbs will last longer). all energy is managed through a series of boxes by a company called Agilewaves. And, to make things better (for me)- everything is controlled, monitored, and displayed graphically from my system, called Crestron. In the home, our Crestron control systems are doing....well....everything pretty much. Thermostats, Security system, touchpanels for control and display (2 17" touchpanels in the gym to double as tv's, and still control everything if need be). Camera system, Whole house lighting, whole house audio and video distribution, and ofcourse some sweeeet tv's (Sharp LED LCD tv's <which they don't even make anymore....lol@limitededition>) OK, enough blabbin - here's the photos my friend's wife snapped while she was there. Her Canon 20D did a helluva job at capturing the awesomeness of this home. http://www.fotki.com/jaclynboutwell/...state/kingwood enjoy!

actually, he's a huuuuuge car-nut!
He's got 2 '69 Camaro SS's, a GNX, a Little Red Pickup (Dodge w/ stacks), 4 bimmers, a sandrail buggy, 6 Harleys, 1 snowmobile and a partridge in a pear tree. He's got a shit ton of project cars though. One of his projects is a sweet 2jz supra though....and according to him it'll push somewhere around 800'ish to the rears. Sometimes I just sit there (clocked out ofcourse), and I just drool over all the cars, trucks, bikes, and that damn house....

there's a panic room just 20ft from his mastersuite, and it's unreal the materials they used to build it. It's fully lined with 3 1/2 inch Kevlar (ceiling, floor, and all 6 sides.), and encased with 6 inches of 25k psi concrete (paranoid much?).
He used to be a VP for a petroleum company here in Houston. I don't care for the type, because they're usuallly a$$holes - but this guy breaks the mold. He's extreeeemely generous, and he's not one of those guys you'd imagine was a multi-millionaire (harsh criticism on his house, snooty attitude, etc, etc). I am very surprised how secure his home is though. He knows if anyone is on the property. Cameras, IR detectors, and (get this...) - he's got 16 seismic monitors buried around the home and he knows if someone is walking anywhere on his property (these things pick up vibrations from up to 60 ft away...and they're overlapping. I've played some head-games with him, and I will sneak in the back way - not 10 seconds later - he will call my cell and tell me he knows I'm here, he can see me, and I'll have to try again tomorrow....lol. This job has been a real learning experience for me though. I've put so many hours and so much effort into this 1 job, that I really feel I got the experience now to do pretty much any programming job. I'll try and snap photos of his 'man cave' if he allows me. He wouldn't allow any photos of it as of last week, but I'll do my best to get some up.
