Default What kind of engine do you prefer

I got the idea to start this thread after reading some faggy kid on Club4ag complaining about how he wanted a different motor in his Datsun 510, but then he shot down all kinds of good ideas people threw to him.

So what engine do you guys like to race or drive?

I really love the torque and power of LS series V8s. So much grunt in the low range it's unbelievable.

I also love my high revving two stroke motoring that is run on my kart.

Other than that I love the engine in the 335i, such a smooth progression of power.

So for me it's a good V8, straight 6 turbo, or a high revving racing engine (my 2 stroke turns over 17,000 rpm).

What do you guys love?

i also like flat 4's, subbies ftw

I love alfa romeos flat 4 engines, they are torquey and are for me the best sounding stock 4 cilinder engines there ever was. even completely stock those little bastard make a good dose of power, sound like bigger exotic engines.

love bimmer straight sixes too, like u said smooth power delivery (straight sixes are naturaly balanced engines) i´ve driven a couple of 325i and they are really sweet engines.

chevy small block attract me alot, but never driven one, love the way they sound, seen alot of classic camaros with them and race cars like the lola t70 and marcos lm with it and they sound awsome.

absolute favourite has to be a good high revving V12, for me a perfect sportscar has a large v12 in it, it got torque, power, its naturaly balanced like the inline6 so it also very smooth and then the NOISE!...

but i think there is pretty much alot of nice engines in any configurations

I am quite the fan of V8s, particulary small and big block chevys of all generations. I love the stoutness of the 2JZ and the potential of the Viper V10. Like Nortad said there are a lot of good engines out there. Listen to this monster

I think it all depends on the application. I love torquey v8's but I wouldn't want one up here in the winter. And the viper v10 is just pure sex. For a year round daily driver turbo 4's are hard to beat.

900whp actually. We had a guy making 934whp on his stock block Supra, now it's being built...1800whp 6-spd weekend driver anyone?

I never cared for the power band in V8s. It just seems like too much torque too soon, and then it falls flat on the top end. I like an engine that has some "lag" down low, for early throttle at corner exit, and easy to drive around town, but with lots of top end power, to put the V8s in their place.

So yeah, a I4 Turbo engine.

A good V8 rumble will give me goosebumps (literally). So any V8 with big cam lope or a boxer 4 (Porsche, Subaru)

So my understanding is that the world record for a supra is 1622 rwhp (w/ 40 psi boost and a 250 shot of N20). That car was tuned to the nth degree for the purposes of claiming that record for that dyno run.

YouTube - Amit Bhakta's 1622rwhp SAE WORLD RECORD supra dyno

So you are telling me that the shop you are working at is building a supra that has 180 rwhp more, and if that werent enough to make us impressed, its "wkend driver" car too.... what shop do you work at and who's car is this?

Supras have great reliability but lets not get too carried away here... Peter Blach sets the "stock bottom end record" with this 900 rwhp run back in the day (never mind the fact that it was never raced in that configuration and was just for the purposes of claiming the title) and then all of a sudden, its common knowledge that all stock bottom end supras can take 900 hp, drive every day in traffic to the grocery store, and last 100K miles of racing with nothing more than oil changes every 3k miles...

And while on the topic of "handling" 800 hp on stock bottom end. Define "handle" for me - do you mean for one run at this power level on the dyno? Or actually being to endure the stress of racing for more than a couple of passes? I suspect its the former....
