I think the point I was trying to make in the first post is that there seems to be a lot of extras required to make a swap happen and then maximize the combo that most ppl dont account for in these "back of the napkin" type estimates. (i.e. headers, new intake, tuning, clutch, etc etc etc.)
You really think you can just bolt on a $4500 turbo kit and away you go?? Nitrous is WAAAAYYY more simple than turbo and I know from experience that it goes way beyond just hooking up the system. Quote:

You could prolly do a junkyard turbo setup on it and run mid 12s or something. On the turbo forums a guy is running like low 9's on a pretty much stock 2 bolt 350 with turbos (well I think its stock didn't want to go throught lik 80 pages to confirm 100% lol)

Yea, i'm gonna say thats bullshit.
Shitbox rusted Eg hatch without motor or trans - $500-600 Your choice B16-B18-k20 swap (if its not a stolen motor) - $ 3000 - 5000 Mounts, Axels, Ecu, I/H/E, Tune, misc parts - $ 2000 - 3000 Thats anywhere from 5 grand for a basic shitbox swap, to upwards of 10 grand for a properly done k20 swap. Like rydin said this will get u anywhere from low 13's for the k20 up to mid-high 14's with a low end b16. Now, to get it in 10's or 11's, youll need boost or a big shot of nitrous. This means there is no such thing as a $5000 civic, unless you turbo the D serious it came with, and that will take your reliable civic and make its life extremely short.

thiers a dude on my local forum that slaps injectors tunes it and a turbo and run's i think 10.9's with typical boltons with a few thousand invested.
seems like it blows up after 10-20 runs each and everytime. ![]() but he gets the 10's slip each and every build |

yea i know my sisters boyfriend dumped a load of money into his civic before he sold it, decked out with everything basically on a h22 engine port and polish, camshaft', bored out, pistons etc. i think it ran mid 13's without the 75 shot of gas

now see i guess i could see a person being able to build a low 14 high 13 second honda for like 5 grand not including the car, but see the thing is you can do that with almost any car. I was looking at getting an 80's Monte Carlo with a 305 or a 350 and doing the work myself i could turn that car into a 12 second car for 5 grand including the price of the car. but thats cause i would not buy brand new parts i would search through swap meets and junk yards, where its much easier to find parts for a chevy small block then it is to find parts for a 4 cylinder honda civic. i agree with BOTLFEDLT1 that its kinda hard to believe that anyone can build an 11 second honda for less then 5 grand. heres an article that kinda proves what i mean High tech Honda = High Dollar

That article is like 7 years out of date.
Can't compare something that's been around for over 50 years IE the sbc 350 to a honduh in price. I'd take the honduh over the pig block 455

well but my point isn't the 455 its im saying that to build a honda motor its gonna cost you a lot more money then 5 grand, also to build a big block its gonna be a lot easier cause there isnt all the electrical crap in the way

I was looking to build my b18c swapped eg coupe but just to build the b18c bottom end with quality and not ebay parts was $2000 - $3000 and thats just the bottom end. Top end depending on porting cost about $2k with a good VTEC head for a core. Total cost of the engine was going to excede $10K not including any chassis or forced induction. Hondas are not cheap if done right. BTW I was shooting for 10 sec quarter mile times with slicks

i believe the fine line between cheap and expensive remains what you are able to do and what you have to get done, if your smart and agile and have most basic tools you can do everything yourself but welds you can get away with about 1/2 of what it would cost you to get it done.
Hell, for 2k$ you can be sucking 300hp out of a volvo inline 4 B230ft block, as its a quality engine, forged base and turbo'd stock, so your goodies for 2k$ would be injectors, IC, chips, boost controller, maybe bigger turbo? Minor head work, porting exhaust/intake manifolds... Not bashing on Honda's, but its hard to make weak stuff strong. but i wouldnt go with a k20 swap for a honda, for example: get a 89si hatch, light reliable, and instead of spending sh1tloads of money on k20's b18's whatever, do an LS vtec b18base CRV head, play on the intake, play with timing. you can probably to very very cheap SuperCharger setup using those SHO S/C's or the Pontiac, or even the SuperCoupe Chargers, it'll take lots of time to do the right mounts for it, but hey! Cheap cheap cheap, almost given parts! Im sure you can built a fast Honda for less than 5k$ inlcuding purchasing the car. my 2cents!
