just yesterday my computer stopped recognizing my video card (ati x800 pro not OC'd) so i installed the newer drivers and when i restart it still doesnt and my usb keyboard doesn't work. Ever since I installed my new mobo and power supply i've gotten an error on start up about "power calbe not connected to video card" and my PSU has been very iffy as of late (i.e. it will cut power off then right back on causing a restart). I believe it's a wiring problem because i can mess with the wires leading out of the PSU and cause it to flicker on and off. (i'm sure thats GREAT for a computer
) Any suggestions about gettin my KB and or video card to work? I'm pretty sure I'm gonna replace my PSU but I want to make sure it'd be compatible with future upgrades (core 2 duo, pci-x, etc...) Thanks guys ![]() |

My computer was doing the same thing with random shut offs and what not. I found that it was a bad power supply, and that it was not providing enough power. When you up grade to bigger video cards they draw more power thus you need a larger power supply.

well, my current one says 600w but it's some cheap brand i've never heard of. I'm probably going to upgrade to a thermaltake or coolmax. I dont have anything too power hungry. ati x800 pro, SB audigy card, usb 2.0 card, 2 optical and 2 hard drive. p4 3.4e socket 478.
Not really sure how to check what pin type i have on my mobo but it's an asus p4p800 se. we'll see. I'll probably get a new one when i get paid but i'd like to make sure i know what i'm getting and that i'll be compatible with future upgrades like i talked about |

whew, one trip to bestbuy, $83 and about 30 minutes later i'm back in business. had to figure out what the little blue 3 prong connector was and why it would power up for a split second (literally) then switch off. turns out that thing was the fan power for the power supply itself. found a plug for it and viola! video card works and i think I found a new place for my pc/ time to hook up the rest of the fans but then i gotta head to work unfortunately. It was easier than i thought to install considering this was my first time but I freaked out when i saw that my mobo had a 20 pin connector but the PSU was 24 pin. the last 4 could be detached and everything was gravy. I'm glad something is going right today
