ATTLEBORO, Mass. -- Tag, you're out.
Tag is as much a tradition at recess as the lunch lady is in the cafeteria. But when youngsters at a suburban Boston school go outside, they'll get in trouble if they try to play tag. Students at Willett Elementary School in Attleboro can no longer play tag during recess. The same goes for touch football and other unsupervised "chasing" games. The school's principal said there's too much risk of injury to children during games like tag. Officials are also afraid if someone gets hurt, the school will get sued. Principal Gaylene Heppe is in her second year as principal at the school. Parents are divided. Debbie Laferriere -- who has two children at the school -- said playing tag is part of being a kid. She told the Sun-Chronicle of Attleboro that unsupervised games help children develop social skills that can be valuable later in life. "I think that it's unfortunate that kids' lives are micromanaged, and there are social skills they'll never develop on their own," Laferriere told the paper. Other parents said it's ironic that schools are banning games like tag at a time of rising concern over childhood obesity. "I think it's a little bit silly," said parent Christine McAndrews. "The kids love to play pick-up football games that they organize themselves. It's great for their social skills and they resolve things on their own. It's good for them." But another parent, Celeste D'Elia, said she's witnessed a lot of "near collisions" between children and supports anything that makes the playground safer. According to the paper, Willett Elementary is not alone. Schools in Cheyenne, Wyo. and Spokane, Wash. banned tag at recess. A suburban Charleston, S.C., school not only banned tagged, but outlawed all unsupervised contact sports. I blame this on super liberal authority figures who just want to look like they make sh!t happen, but they don't care what. This same sorta thing happened in Alfred State when they replaced their old white guy president with Uma Gupta. Who looks kinda like the devil. ![]() The first thing she did was get rid of a long running tradition, The Naked Mile. I'm sure you all can imagine. This spring when I went to visit my friends for Hot Dog Day (hahaha) it was like a nazi concentration camp. We all had to wear arm bands in order to get into the residence halls. Later I heard she was firing anyone on her board of directors who didn't agree with her. She was a damn dictator. Affirmative action and changes for the sake of changing things is going to ruin the US, and anyone who can't see it is blind. ![]()

damn that sucks.....when i was in elementy we used to play tackle football (in winter) and also Bulldog
for those who don't know what bull dog is its a game where one person stays in the middle of the school yard and everyone lines up on the wall....when that one person yells bulldog everyone must try to get to the other side of the yard....if that person touches someone (in winter tackles) then that person who got touched (or tackled) and the person who touched them (or tackled) are to call bulldog.....and the ppl have to run to the other side again...and as the number of bulldog callers gets the smaller the ppl runing back and forth get...thus being hard to win the game in the end ![]() anyhow all that to say is....damn this sucks..poor kids can't even have fun anymore

back when I was at school we used to play red rover, it got banned every term cause someone would break something or a parent would complain when their kid went home with only a sleeve left from his/her shirt.
So we'd play brandy or wall brandy (a group of people stand against a wall with one about 5m away pegging a ball at them - if you get 'branded' then you get to throw the ball) until someone would start using rocks and then that would get banned too. So we'd resort back to gang-up (same as tag except once your 'it' your always 'it' until theirs no one left) but by the end of the term we would manage to add a ball or sticks or rocks to the game and it would get banned. But the holidays would pass and we'd start it all again and no one really cared until someone got seriously hurt. That was a good point about obesity and you could probably say violence too - whats more violent, playing tag or just about any decent ps2 game? Then again what are they doing wasting their time playing tag for anyway? They should be behind the oval smoking and making out!!
