Default My paper

Hi all. I'm posting this on here for two reasons. One cause I can't find anywhere to host it for the time being and that I can't access my email on the school computers. Two for your responses to it. I need to be able to access this at home to work on it some more (its due tomorrow). This is my senior research project and it really sucks. This is not finished (I have 2 rough drafts done, but i haven't completed typing this one yet, im really only just copying it). It's about the Zodiac Killer. I know it's some what confusing because of the type of format but whatever. There are errors, one because everything has errors, and two, so it can make it look like i did a good editing job. Tell me what you think.

“California’s most elusive serial killer claimed his first confirmed victim on October 30th, 1966 in Riverside” (Mark and Kristi Fisher, Zodiac Killer). In chapter one of Jake Wark’s paper on www.crimelibrary.com, he states that it was a Sunday night when the Zodiac killer murdered Cheri Jo Bates by Riverside City College’s library annex (Riverside). This was long before anyone ever heard of the Zodiac Killer, and Bates wouldn’t be the last of his victims. In fact, the number of victims that the Zodiac claimed in California during the mid 1960’s is unknown, along with the identity of the Zodiac Killer.

Bates’ murder appears to be well thought out. Wark states that she while was in the library, the Zodiac disabled her car by “pulling out the distributor coil and condenser, and then disconnected the middle of the distributor” (Riverside). Wark then continues by saying “the killer apparently waited for Bates to return to her car and try to start it” (Riverside). After unsuccessfully trying to fix the engine (or so it appeared), the strange man, believed to be the Zodiac Killer, invited Bates to his car to give her a ride home (Riverside). While in his car, the man eventually attacked Bates, giving her three wounds in the chest area, one in the back, and seven across the throat. The wounds were so deep, it appeared that the killer was trying to decapitate Bates, “severing her larynx, gugular vein, and carotid artery” simultaneously with a weapon later identified as a small knife with a blade approximately 3 ½ inches long by ½ inche wide (Wark, Riverside). And exactly 6 months after this horrible murder, the Riverside Press, Bates’ father, and the police all received nearly exact copies of the same letter, which read:
“BATES HAD
TO DIE
THERE WILL
BE MORE” (Wark, Riverside).

The next of the Zodiac’s victims were Darlene Ferrin and Michael Renault Mageau. It was “…shortly after 12:00 am on Saturday, July 5th, 1969, [when] Darlene Elizabeth Ferrin, 22, and Michael Renault Mageau, 19, were shot as they sat in Ferrin’s car in the parking lot of the Blue Rock Springs Golf Course” (Wark, Ferrin and Mageau). The night started when Ferrin told Mageau that she needed to talk to him about something. Mageau suggested that the two head back and park in the golf course’s parking lot. Jake Wark states in chapter 6 of his Crime Library.com paper that “After just a few minutes, three cars occupied by some young revelers entered the parking lot briefly, laughing, yelling, and throwing firecrackers. They drove off shortly thereafter” (Ferrin and Mageau). The two in commenced talking when a car appeared in the parking lot. “It’s lone occupant turned off the car’s headlights and pulled up next to Ferrin’s car” (Ferrin and Mageau). The car was about 8 feet away, and appeared to be a brown Ford Mustang or similar Chevrolet Corvair. When asked by Mageau if she knew the driver, Ferrin replied “‘Oh never mind that’” (Wark, Ferrin and Mageau). Wark then explains that the driver walked up to the car, shot and killed Ferrin, and then wounded Mageau. Mageau climbed out of the car and started screaming. The killer turned around and shot two shots into each of the victims. Amazingly Mageau survived all four shots that were unleashed upon him (Ferrin and Mageau).

At 11:10 pm on December 20th, 1968, David Arthur Faraday and Betty Lou Jensen were parked along Lake Henry Road, when the two were murdered by the Zodiac Killer. (Wark, Vallejo). The two were sitting and talking in Faraday’s brown Rambler, when a suspicious four door vehicle, perhaps a Chevrolet Impala pulled in behind them. Wark then tells how the Zodiac Killer then took aim at the fleeing Jensen and shot her as she ran (Valejo). “Within hours, an anonymous man called the police, and claimed he was responsible for the fatal shooting of the teenagers, along with the San Francisco cab driver Paul Stine, whom the Zodiac shot while Stine was covering his route, only to narrowly avoid being caught by the police. It was later found out that the Faraday and Jensen killings, along with the murder of Paul Stine, were the last definite murders that the Zodiac committed.

Because the Zodiac killings took place a long time ago, and because the real killer was never found, it is impossible to compare anything about the trial in similar cases. It is possible to compare the Zodiac Killings to similar killings, such as with the BTK. The BTK killer, like the Zodiac, picked out his victims ahead of time, the only difference being that the Zodiac Killer picked out his victims the same day, and stalked them while the BTK killer picked out his victims and watched them for weeks. Both serial murderers targeted mainly women. Because the Zodiac Killer was never caught, it is hard to tell what similarities there would be in the trials. I believe that if the Zodiac had been caught, he would of also received a life sentence, because of the brutality and the sheer number of victims. I also believe that like the BTK killer, the Zodiac would show remorse for his victims and for what he had done to them because he has had to live all his life knowing what he did.
