jesus, why would you test an awd turbo "rally" car vs an american "muscle car" its like apples to oranges. sti=snowy, or dirt roads, tarmac ralley conditions, or a race track(not a strip)(out of the box) and Stang=fast straight line (ish) and getting better in corners but far from a track worthy car out of the box.
-I would like to see real times AKA vids, of the new gtr but with real everyday drivers not test gurus. but then again who average driver has 80k to spend on a car. Anywho, ill stick away from the internet forum racing and benchracing for now till non-tested numbers come out. AND I do think the ZR-1 wont stand a chance on the ring with the gtr. power is nothing if you can't put it to the ground. There is enough problems with z06's staying on the road as it is with 505bhp.

I said it before and I'll say it again - the GT-R will be fast and respectable.. but the expectations that are being built up about this car are getting out of hand. The GT-R with almost 8 lbs / hp will more than have its hands full with a Z06 that is only carrying 6.3 lbs/hp, let alone a zr-1 that only carries 5.4 lbs/hp. Weight is the bane of performance and will affect handling more than acceleration. All the technogizmos in the world dont alter physics. Last edited by BOTLFEDLT1; 04 Jan 2008 at 11:26 pm. |

Ill still stick to the GTR, yea power to weight is USUALLY the deciding factor, but you are testing AWD against a FR platform, and unless you get more weight over the rear wheels, IE. MR platforms, im just saying the ZR1 is going to have a hard time putting over 500whp to the ground. |

^ what? the ZR1 makes 620hp at the crank, how will it not put down over 500 rwhp? With the way GM underrates their car, My best guess is it will dyno 575-580+ rwhp.

Power to weight is usually the deciding factor in drag races, but OVERALL weight is one of the big deciding factors in racetrack handling. That is why lotus exiges/miatas are about to kill a lot of supercars on the track despite only 2wd and skinny tires. AWD lets you put the power down sooner out of the corners, but is it enough to make up for having to decelerate and reign in 500 extra pounds every corner? Thats a pretty big handicap to overcome. Its kind of like comparing the veyron against, i dunno, the MB SLR. Even with 300 hp advantage and awd, they both ap the ring at around 7'40 b/c of the massive weight the veyron is carrying. And Im pretty sure the ZR-1 aint spotting a GT-R 300 hp ![]() |
