not many, on the nissan sites, a few guys were saying that after preliminary testing the clutch assembly system failed to hold up after only 5 launches at 4,500 rpms. Now, how much truth is there to that??? don't know, but w/ the power it makes, I wouldn't doubt it. Same goes for the STI, it has a crappy clutch in it from the factory, yet it costs a lot, but if I were paying 90+ $$$ for the new GT-R, it had better damn well stand up to some abuse.

I wonder if nissan will limit the number of times the launch control can be activated before your clutch/tranny warranty is voided like the euro spec SMG bmw m3's (30 launch limit). The awd gt-r will have a lot more grip than the rwd m3, so obviously the clutch/tranny are going to take a hell of a lot more abuse from launch control.
AWD + big hp always = short clutch life. Ive read that lambo mucielago owners get about 2500 miles per clutch. Last edited by BOTLFEDLT1; 22 Jan 2008 at 05:57 am. |

Wow, are they building these clutches so that they give out before the powertrain does? I have seen so many aftermarket clutches stand up to multiple beatings on +500hp AWD cars.

^ yup me too, but AWD and a launch assist combined w/ high power will eat a clutch alive, the tranny may be able to handle it, but the clutch wont. I mean they could put a Stg 3 aftermarket clutch in at the factory, but then you will have buyers complaining that pushing in the clutch is like pushing in the clutch on a farm tractor, because not everyone will race the car.

Can you put an aftermarket clutch that will hold 500 hp in awd? Sure. More often than not it will be a ceramic/sintered iron puck set up... Will it be as smooth as an OEM set up? No. Will it last as long as an OEM set up? No. |
