Default Best Place for swaps

I am about to take my first plunge into a front clip swap! I am excited and getting frustrated at the rate of some places for complete crap. I know there are other threads out there but if some people could point me in a good direction on a SR20DET front clip swap for the s14 i would be most grateful. I have seen them for up to 4,500 bucks and looking for a killer deal. Let me know if you have any places that are between 2 and 3 grand and are legit people to do business with. thanks!

Do a search on ebay. There are many rb20det including transmission for 1200-1500.

rb20 is NOT a direct drop in for a 240... phase 2 is a good company, try asking around at 240sx.org. got my ca18det for 950. going lsx or ka-t next. maybe a vq35.

Other than some motor mounts and a throttle cable bracket, it should drop right in. The last time I checked the motor mounts were less than 400 and people can custom make a cable cracket. There was a guy on here a while ago (nismoron) who had a 240 with a rb20 swap. Said it was much easier than a lot of other swaps.

A friend of mine has done the swap... What about tranny crossmember and driveshaft? wiring? I you've never attempted a swap before stick with a blacktop sr20, or just boost the ka. the ka will make similar power as a bolt on sr20 with tons more tq. ka-t ftw.

Don't do a ka-t. Theres a ton of people that I know that has had problems when they got a lot of hp. I'm not saying its not a bad idea but if you plan on building a high hp car take your time and do it right. If I had a 240 I'd put a RB25 in it. A lot more work but its worth it.

I was going on info provided by someone on the site. Here are some quotes from him:

And however you choose to make your intercooler mount and piping. You can make or buy a premade downpipe. Thas about it. With custom mounts like from Unstable or Tophat, it just bolts in. The McKinney mounts are WAY too expensive and are kinda crappy.

The RB harness requires less wiring and modification to connect to the US 240 chassis. The only fabbing is for a throttle bracket ans a down pipe. I bent the trottle bracket out od an aluminum bar and just used a file to cut a slot for the cable to rest in(15-20 mins). The down pipe, you just cu the skyline pipe in half. Test fit it in the car and tack weld two 45degree 3in steel elbows to it(they bend around the steering shaft). Take it out and weld it up correctly. That took us about 2 and a half hours because we had bought the welder the day before and no one knew how to use it. Its harder than it looks to weld steel piping. Now we could make on in less than an hour.
All of the skyline intercooler piping bolts straight in. Tha main thing is the wiring harness is LESS pain in the ass. Everything else is equal Except that an RB costs HALF what the SR costs

I only paid $1200 dollars + $635 shipping for an entire front clip from an R32 with 215hp. My best friend and I just completed a couple of KA24DE turbos and they were much more difficult than the RB's. The RB's just bolted in (with Unstable-Hybrids motor mounts) and all we had to make were downpipes and swap about 7 or 8 wires in the harnesses. The KA-T we had to fabricate ALOT! Downpipe, oil lines, heat sheilds, and ALL of the intercooler piping. The R32 piping from my clip just bolted right in on the RB swap. You are right about beating an SR though... I have raced 3 and crushed them all. The only one I have times for was my 13.73@104 vs the SR at 14.90 (dunno trap speed), and I was spinning a little in first and through most of second. The RB has NO power below about 4000rpm though, but it keep pulling harder and harder until the rev cut hits! There's more power up there with some valve springs and retainers (and remove the rev limiter)
Also the VG30DE (from a Z32 )swap is pretty easy as well just use a Z31 tranny and fab some motor mounts and a drive shaft. 225ish hp and a WIDE torque band for drifting! We are working on one now.

Some people at Northwest Nissans - Powered by vBulletin might know of a local place that sells them

Or you could just buy a swapped car

a rb is alot heavier than a sr,ca,or ka. throws off the balance alot. the ca is the lightest and is near 50/50 f/r. and ca intercooler kits fit the sohc ka with minimal mods and sr i/c kits fit the dohc ka. oil lines are not a big deal and a heat shield for the motor mount and one for the master cylinder is a easy fab. and with a bottom mount manifold any sr downpipe will work. my sohc ka with a t2871 at 9-10 psi made 250ish whp and 290 tq. arp head studs and stock nissan head gasket. 168k when i boosted it and lasted 30k of nothing but abuse. and ka's are dirt cheap in junkyards everywhere
