For sure track > touge except if both were shut down and empty, the touge will actually teach you more in my opinion.
Tracks can't even begin to compare with the canyon roads out here, a few roads were talking 178 corners in 5-8 miles. No track can match that except for the Nurburgring. Canyons require a specific skill set that you don't need on the track. For wheel to wheel racing I completely agree track > touge because it's safer and you can learn a lot more. You are cornering damn near 95-98% of the time where I live. Name a track where you do that, pretty hard to do huh? If you had to pass someone on a canyon though, I'm sorry but the challenge goes up 10 fold compared to a race track. In real life Track > canyon In fantasy land where theres no oncoming traffic...oh my god canyons > track. p.s. I'm not sure what camera I'm looking at yet, I just crashed my kart and did about $1,000 USD of damage so I'm not looking for extra parts. Came up on a tire wall and the back wheel clipped the slightest bit of tire, cause me to get pulled into the tire wall where i was ejected from the kart at about 70mph. I did a full flip in the air (according to my girlfriend) and landed on my head. It was pretty nuts. In that instance I was glad I waso n a track...not a canyon hahaha. |

Driving in the canyons with even a slight chance of traffic is absolutely retarded in my opinion. If you are taking corners at those speeds you don't have a chance in hell of avoiding an innocent person that you didn't see coming.

That's true, but if you go really late at night and you know the times to go (weekdays at 3-4am) it is very very unlikely you will ever run into another soul if your in the right place.
At night too you can see the headlights curve far before they ever reach you. Usually what I would do is slow down and then wait for the person to pass. There are a lot of things you can do to minimize the risk, but as you said it is dangerous at the end of the day. A kid out by where I live in a Saturn ION had nitrous on his car and drove like a total fu**ing idiot. Would double lane w/o any care in the world. Eventually some guy in a Scion TC was racing down the hill, staying in the correct lane...well....they collided at about 50-60mph head on. I have no idea what the condition of either of them was. The whole scene though by nature is filled with kids who have no idea what the f*** they are talking about, let alone any knowledge of how to really drive a car. |

Lol, yeah that's the one he's talking about. And I wasn't driving slow on those roads, I was doing above the speed limit hahahaha. I hadn't realized that the person filming never stopped filming. I don't have the need to do double the speed limit on every road I drive on. Plus I had to work later that afternoon so we didn't have anytime to go anywhere that I felt good going fast. Although he didn't get a shot of the speedometer over 100 doesn't mean it didn't happen.
But yeah, my vid is a lot worse than one of someone crashing on the toogay.... |

We all have our cup of tea, you like track, i like canyons, now let's not take this any further
canyons FTW! hahaha jk. Everything in life is a risk, but those that take it are either idiots or geniuses, you decide.

Haha yeah "unpleasant" is one way I would explain it.
I was cruising my local road the other day in my truck, and I saw a kid blasting up the road in a brand new 328i. Dealer tags on and everything, he had 4 people in the car and they were all being really loud. By the way he was driving, I could tell he was going fairly quick, just the sound of the RPM when he went by, he was fairly on it. So I made a U turn and followed him. Here is the scene: The road comes through a medium 180 degree uphill corner into a 90 degree left that crests at the top of the hill. So you get lift at the top, VERY easy to spin / crash if you are pushing it. After this you go down this huge hill that is about 80M long into an extremely fast RIGHT LEFT RIGHT LEFT RIGHT (the last right is really up hill and off camber, the car climbs about 8-10 feet.) I follow him and he just takes off down the hill after the big left hand crest. Surely enough, when he enters teh RLRLR combination, the last right catches him off and I watch a brand new 328i in the middle of the day, slide straight off the road (understeer) and into a rock wall at maybe 50-60mph. The car looked absolutely fuc*ed and it was brand new. They were all ok and walking so I didn't call 911. About 30 seconds later someone came down the road to help them. This kid looked maybe 17 just so you guys know. He might have not even been allowed by state law to be carrying anyone in the car with him. In the set where he crashed, I would peak about 82mph in the miata before waiting until the last right hand corner to brake, the corner was a 2nd gear turn that the roadster could take at maybe 40-50. He was way over his and the cars own limit. Thankfully no one was hurt. |
