If the dude in the rx-8 dont know how to drive I can see it bein takin off the line and walked a lil til top end since the rx-8 has like zero torque. Rotary needs turbo thats all there is to it. And Im sure that 3 wasnt completely stock, I think they have the same engine as the focus (correct me if Im wrong) and I never seen a focus take off like that.

HAHHAHAHA... im going to take my winter beater mazda protege (predecessor of the mazda 3) and go hunt some rx8's now.
I know some one is bound to pipe in and say "going fast in a straight line takes no skill" or "hp isnt everything", but cmon.. how are you supposed to keep your dignity on the street in a so-called sports car when you are going to get your clock cleaned by some soccer mom driving a v6 accord? |

Mazda did drop the ball on the RX-8. The engine was designed for a 2100lb car, not a 3000lb car. Shove the engine in the MX-5 or turbo the RX-8 and call it done.

Ill agree with that. What other car manufacturer has a family sedan that is faster than their FLAGSHIP car?

but they got the marketing, people buy into their bullshit, zoom zoom, zoom my balls, like the introduction of the tribute, "what happens when an suv is brought up by a family of sports cars, zoom zoom", what ****ing sports cars, miata at the time and now rx8, if porsche said that about their cayenne i agree, but mazda please, more like a family of 15 seconds or slower cars. |

I'm sick of hearing this "no torque" crap. There is no doubt that torque is needed but if it was the be all and end all then our old Fordson tractor would be kicking arse all over the place- Oh but it wouldn't get close to a Cat dumper, those things would destroy a top fueller with the amount of torque they have
The RX8 is faster than a 3. Here, the 3 is modded sufficently, or the RX8 driver couldn't steer. I'm leaning more towards the 3 being modded but I reckon there is probably room for driver improvement also.

the motors are different not sure as to the specs on a 3 but the motors ARE different ................... and My Focus lauchs the same way if I side step the clutch @ 6000 rpm with the mad torque steer as well ........... curse of an open diff ( no LSD ) as for the RX-8 losing it sounded like he was trying to launch at around 4000rpm and with the "lack of torque" he will get stomped off of the line ( the engine would bog after grip is attained ).... i would attribute the loss to a modded 3 and a bad launch and slow, long shifts on the RX-8 drivers part.
