there are a bunch of single over head cam vtec motors like the 3.0 cl and the 3.2cl type s.The vtec runs off of 2 sets of cam lobes not 2 cams.

My D16Z6 is sohc and it has vtec, it's just that it only has vtec on the intake. It has 3 sets of lobes on the camshaft, 2 intake 1 exhaust. Dohc vtecs have 2 set on each cam, one for low rpm one for high.

Pretty much, But the v-tec sys. is based on good fuel economy and awsome avalible power. DOHC V-TEC has extra lobes on the intake and exhaust cams but the SOHC V-TEC only has extra lobes on the intake part cause the cam is not large enugh to hold both. When v-tec kickes in a oil pump and solinoied pushes a pin through the V-TEC rockers puting them into use and pushing the valve down further and stays there longer :thumb:

exactly...it just keeps the valve open longer. and allows for better fuel flow through the engine at that rpm...hince the pick up in acceleration on some cars. you won't feel it in a civic or 4 cyl accord. more in the V6's and the S2000.

Uhh yeah. It's like having 2 cams at once. Cams with big duration and big lift are inefficient at low rpms, velocity is lost. If the car is tuned properly there shouldn't be any pickup in acceleration. If the cam crossover is set just perfect the torque curve should have no dip, and should normally only gain a few more ft-lbs later on in the rpm band, in an NA car.
