It's actually a 1988 Grand Am with a few extras. I built it up from a new GM shortblock I got from Ebay. I replaced the stock pistons with hypereutectic speedpro pistons, replaced the stock main/rod bearings with clevite-77 and added new parts from there. The head is from a later model higher compression engine and is ported/polished. Still working out a fuel flow issue, leans out at top end. Once that's fixed I'll up the boost a bit.
BTW, that video was shot before it had an exhaust. Just had a coffe can muffler bolted to the downpipe where the cat would normally be. Here's a few other things it has: Throttle body from 2.8 Fiero Starion Intercooler 1G Eclipse BOV MBC running 7psi for now Billet aluminum fuel rail Walbro 190lph Oil Cooler Trans cooler 2003 Vibe wheels Nexen N3000 215/45/16 Custom 2.25" I.D. mandrel exhaust (welded myself)....no cat (need to put one on before next inspection) 2" drop springs Larger front brakes with matching steering knuckles from 95+ GA Poly control arm & swaybar bushings STB from 90+ Sunbird Poly filled motor mounts...used shore 80 flexible urethane |

Yes, a 5-speed is eventually in the works. My first priority is to get more fuel so I can go back up to 12psi. Was much happier then.
Actually, I want to do a DOHC conversion. The same Opel engine was used in the Daewoo Nubira in 2.0/DOHC form and the Isuzu Amigo/Honda Passport in 2.2 DOHC. Any of those heads will work. I have a spare short block to start with, just need a donor motor to strip for parts. |

yeah, but most turbo cars from the 80's were not reliable because of the turbo to manifold design, most factory turbo setups in the 80's had no intercooler which would cause the engine to overheat, but i know first hand that this particular 88 turbo grand am has ballz.
