Default Re: My Volvo "wintah drift" 08-09

the car no longer exists...

Due to complications, i was about to paint it, so my friends "helped me out" and painted the car including all the trims, just to change all the trims and window seals i was looking at 2k$, so i scrapped it, sourced everything i had in it so it was just a shell.

Got an awesome wagon after, 1993 245 from germany (standart), i made a +Turbo kit for it and it was awesome at around 18-21psi, couldnt believe that a car without a spec of rust or corrosion with 401 000km took a turbo so well and never even spat a drop of oil! Sold it at a very very good price though.

i blew the head gasket at 26psi on a very fun highway run VS a 2009 Gti, was worth every bolt! while putting it back together i took advantage of the belt being off to advance the timing a few degrees!

you can see where the damage it.

it was an awesome car! the white wagon is stroked 2.6L big t4, injectors, intake, forged everything!
she was a great one

When i sold it it took me about 1 week and i found this little gem, 1991 already turboed, had fun lowering it and doing a complete stage 0, it has some very aggressive locker i believe its a g80. Current mods are intake, full straight pipe with a highflow muffler, running 15psi and a Forge MBC with an ebay 10$ blow off valve from some v-dub.

its the first car where i actually put most of my attention in the comfort and stereo, redid the seats, rewired the whole friggin car with subs, amplifiers, amazing speakers and components in front and a pioneer deck that reads USB (i never even put a single cd in it!)

Hope you enjoy

Cool video and nice Volvos dude...

lol @ the blown head gasket to win a race

The 91 has a B204 or B234? how much power can it hold in one piece with stock internals?

Thanks for sharing.

Hey!

thank you.

we never got the b204 in north america, b234 are 16v semi Marine motors that came in certain cars with the "regina" ignition/fuel system.

the 1991 240 originally had a b230Fe 2.3L 8v, i put in the 1993 940 turbo motor b230Ft.

the wagon had/has a b230FD with the 531 head and thickest rods aswell as the biggest valves, i did a simple +T on it and kept the ignition on the top mount ditributor (dizzy), i had to drill the block to do the oil feel for the turbo, and drill a hole and weld a bung on the oil pan for the oil return, coolant lines were simply split at the feed and return from th overflow tank and i needed to install the injectors from a turbo model aswell as adding the injector's resistances.

the 744Tic i currently have has a b230ft.

I am willing to shoot somebody to get my hands a b204gt coupled with an M90 transmission, but i think i will try turboing one of those marine Penta blocks first just to see what it gives.

The most performant motor volvo ever made was the b234, if you were able to score an R sports model, it was 250hP naturally aspirated and 500hp turboed!
Even the 2010 volvo c30 rally car has a 90's 16v rwd setup!

As for the blown headgasket, i dont really care, as i can get these motors for about 100-200$ a piece, i dont want to put loads of money on a motor so i keep them fairly stock, except intake exhaust, sometimes valves, but wether i blow the head gasket or the motor, its about the same time to replace.
From experience on stock internals on a redblock you can go hit the 300hp without problems, above 300hp the differential doesnt like to keep up with you!

there are some guys on volvo forums that run a 16v head on a stock block and pull 450whp without problems, but they are NOT using the stock ignition system. I.E motec, megasquirt...

you can see for yourself (i didnt overheat the car and i still drove it home with clouds of white behind)

very very strong engines.

my plan was to put a massive AVNT turbo on that one or my current one
gt3782vnt

but i am currently working on making a supercharger+turbo setup to eliminate lag completely... even though minimal i am aiming for a consistent power curb.

one of my friends bricks is doing 300whp pulls with forged valves, custom ignition system and fuel is managed by Megasquirt and final drive is with a getrag trans.

to give you an idea of $$
ng
wagon cost me 175$, the tint was more expensive than buying + registering, turbo setup cost me a total of 200$ (all scrapyard parts)
New seals and hoses for oil and coolant ran around 25$, buying beer to help the job get done with friends 120$.
5hours later a car with 3 times the HP it had to start with.

Of course, tires $ catches up pretty fast.

Whole suspension setup with highquality bilstein/febi parts will run you around 650-700$ for a quality ride lowered and stiffenned.

Wow! that is impressively cheap

Of course the B230 are SOHC... I don't know much about Volvos I just like those bricks 300hp is pretty decent power for a stock motor...

Thanks for the insight.

Supercharger + Turbo, that would be interesting; what kind of supercharger (twin screw)?

IATs can get pretty high with Twin screws and the intercooler placement can get complicated too, maybe water-meth injection?

How are you planning to tune it? MS too?

i was planning bigger injectors, custom intake manifold to adapt the SC, its a twin screw :P. bigger mass air flow aswell, for the intercooler its absolutely no problem, the stock IC is pretty big and very well placed, towards the front of the car right ahead of the radiator, so its really simple to double the piping around the motor to TwinterCool my setup.

The water meth is an option only if the manifold temperatures get too high, i have no need for it for the moment, as i usually put oct94 at the beginning of each week and @ half tank i put oct99 or 101.

So the original tune would be with the stock fuel system which is lh2.4 on the motronic system and i would go MSD with wasted spark for ignition.

The only other modification i would add would be an external wastegate.

Again, i find it ridiculous to throw an assload of money in the motor, i much rather put it around along with time and sweat. Motor blows, no problem remove the goodies, swap block and try harder.

You must understand, i dont even want to put a camshaft in it as i would be pretty pissed off to destroy the head in the case the timing belt rips. I love the non interference setup volvo came up with.

Yes the b230ft is a 8valve 2.3L 1989–1998 B230FT — 8.7:1 compression vs the NA block of same years: 1988–1993 B230F — 9.8:1 compression
but Turbo 168hp and Na 114, yet the NA turboed is amazing and so much more aggressive than the FT at the same boost level.

You can get a full rebuilt kit for either motor including all seals grommets and rings for about 400$ and you have a new block.

Figure also that a 2004-2007 volvo R series
Quote:
B5254T2-R (B5254T4)

The B5254T2-R has dual VVT and is turbocharged and intercooled.

Output is 300 hp (220 kW) at 5500 rpm with 295 ft·lbf (400 N m) of torque at 1950-5250 rpm with the 6 speed M66AWD (Ford/Getrag) manual transmission.

Output is reduced to 300 hp (220 kW) at 6000 rpm with 258ft.lb (350 N m) of torque between 1850 and 6000 rpm with the 5 speed AW51AWD Aisin Warner automatic transmission (2004-2005).

The 6 speed TF-SC80 automatic transmission is not limited (2006-2007).

Applications:

* 2004-2007 Volvo S60R AWD
* 2004-2007 Volvo V70R AWD
And thats a motor with the latest technology on a car that has close to 9cpu's in it!

they are commonly called "whiteblocks"

cool thing though, you "can" run them on MS and they bolt straight up to the volvo m90 trans to complete a full RWD setup!!!

Sounds like you have a plan, and it sounds good!

B5254T2-R (B5254T4) appears to be a very good platform, future plans?

I am a DIY fan, so I like MS applications and development

You should make a build thread about the 1991 744Tic, there are not a lot of Volvos around here (south america) I have driven a pair of XC90s and I was gladly impressed though...

Quite frankly, i love the sound of the whiteblock, but i also enjoy having a distributor and spark plug wires instead of coils and coil packs.

This is Overladad's turbo 850 (first gen of the white blocks)
YouTube - Volvo Turbo!!!
the sound is just gorgeous!

but listen to b234 16v turbo + Nos!
YouTube - Volvo 740 Turbo 493hp
493hP!!!!!

Xc90 are fun, depending if you tried the 2.5T ,2.9 i6 or the v8, they also have a i6TT available
I have problems with newer cars, too much shit going on lol.

I have had fun with Xc90's but half the fuses were out and 3/4's of the dash lights were on or blinking!

Damn! lol they do sound Good...

-That turbo 850 is needing rwd asap

-That b234 was sick! this one needs better tires.

The Xc90s I drove were 4.4, I liked them but like you said, PCs are too intrusive; lol @ using it without fuses to make it more entertaining, crazy shit.
