Most american cars dont need to spin to the moon to make big power. The old adage "RPM = Ruins peoples motors" has an element of truth to it. While advances in materials/technology have allowed higher redlines than in the past, you cant get around the fact that all things being equal:
higher operating speed = higher stress = lower reliability = lower life. |

yes thats soo true... kinda figures why most american V8's last so long is becuase most of them only redline up to 5500rpm and they sound like shit at that rev...have lots of torque... but it's also on the builder

Redlines Chevrolet LS7 = 7000 rpm Ford 4.6 Cobra = 7000 rpm Chevrolet LS6 = 6500 rpm Chevrolet LS2 = 6500 rpm Dodge 6.1 Hemi = 6400 rpm Chevrolet LS1 = 6000 rpm Its subjective, but I think most ppl would agree that american thunder at WOT 5500 rpm sounds pretty amazing. I would take that over any fart can 4 banger at 10k rpm in a heartbeat. At least you got one thing right... but you forgot lots of hp too. |

haha no sorry wasn't specific there.. i was talkin bout older truck V8's... like 350's don't rev that high and don't have a very high top speed (but thats the gearing ratios) just lots of low torque...
but yeah the newer american V8's rev higher... then the exotics are crazy with what they can do

You have got to be kidding. That was not at 10K rpms. The description is hyperbole--read it again. That was probably 6-7K.
