not sure what happend but i went to start the car last night and noticed the power steering was messing up, i go to hit the gas and go foward and the car started sputtering foward on its own, i tap the gas and the car died, i go to restart it no luck, tryed again and then she fired up but with a horrible taping noise. i was wondering if anyone could figure out this sound? could it be a thrown rod? or a cylinder misfiring? or something else?

that seems familiar to me... it could be your valves that arent properly adjusted but im not sure... Check your timing belt for starters, does the steering pump squeek or is just hard to turn the wheel?

Wait!!! your car is OBD-2 right? RUN to the nearest napa and get the obd scanner its like 40$, im not sure but the connector is behind the ashtray you will know alot from it, if the timing is off, misfiring, too rich, too poor...

GOd that noise is very very very familiar i just cant remember it dammit, im too used to the sound of the 8 valves in my brick...

lol thank you marek, and yea it is OBD-II and am going to autozone and they do it for free apparently

the code readout is PO300 random/multiple cylinder misfire detected..

so wtf..

Thats what my truck sounded like with a spun main bearing.

the sound is not deep enough to be a rod or main bearing, thats valve train.
