Well 9L is HUGE! I think that 3.9L is more than enough. Look here BMW M3 E36 3,9 - 1422bhp
I don't know how much power this Viper has but compared to the BMW the Viper should have about: (1422HP/3.9) x 9 = 3281 HP -> I'll just take the Beemer :-D |

Sorry, but power density is not follow a linear relationship.
If it did, a Honda S2000 should be making 440 hp based on the 200 hp / litre that Honda's own 600 cc motorcycle engines are making. Every car becomes compromised in terms of streetability and reliability once you get into the high hp realm. All things being equal, larger displacement engines naturally have less compromises (i.e. can run lower boost, need less revs, lower octane etc). A boosted big big cube viper is a difficult combination to beat in a street car. Quote:

Read what I wrote again more slowly:
He made the argument that because some bmw makes 364 hp / litre, the viper should make 3281 (364 x 9 litre engine). Im saying that is not true, b/c the relationship between power and engine size is not linear (you know what linear means, right?). If that were true, all honda's, which use the same technology to some extent should be making 200hp per litre, which is what their 4 stroke, 4 cylinder 600 cc motorcycle engines make. Obviously this isnt true. I could also make the same argument with the NSX. Why doesnt it make 320 hp from its 3.2 litre when the B16 makes 100 hp/litre from its 1.6? read before you type, burgh. |

i guess bhp/per liter doesnt mean alot over in america.? where over in europe it shows how well built a engine is.i think any company can make a v10 engine with 9 liters and only 500bhp.if i look at most car stats on sites. it will near always say the bhp per liter.
