The don't call them dune buggy's anymore, they are known as Sand Rails.

And let me tell you, what you have seen in that video is pretty tame compared to what they do out there in the deserts of southern California and Arizona.

You make your own! There are lots of what they call 'Bowls" out there in the dunes, areas where the wind created DEEP holes(couple hundred feet deep, coupld hundred yards wide) in the sand that you can drive into, but most cannot get out, only the really high perfomance ones even try it.

My dad has a video of a guy with a 4 wheel drive twin turbo V8 pumping out over 800hp, that would stop on the side of a steep hill, similar to the one in the video, and nail it, and shoot rooster tails of sand with the deep lug tires more than a hundred yards out behind all 4 wheels, and fly off the top!

car has : 514 cid ford motorsport super cobrajet engine
custom holley multi port fuel injection
fbperformance full manual Turbo 400 tranny
speedway engineering quick change rear end
20" (over 500mm) suspension travel front and rear

was first time out in the dunes, so engine is still fresh. made uncorrected 468HP to the rears on a Mustang dyno at 5800 rpm (current rev limiter, when broken in peak will be at 6300 rpm with a redline at 6600)
