Sounds like BS to me, I've never known ANYONE who swapped out their all seasons for snow tires.

Where do you live and what kind of winters do you see? While Im not usually a fan of overzealous legislation, this is one law that I agree with. Winter tires provide much more traction in the snow and make the roads safer for everyone. We dont get nearly as much snow in toronto and I still think it should be mandatory here as well.

I remember driving home from Montreal to Toronto during new years a couple of years ago and getting stuck in a snow storm. Traffic came to a halt at a slight incline and my car was slipping backwards w/ a fwd car with full winter tires. My sister had and her friend had to push the car to get it moving and had to hop into it while it was moving (b/c I would have gotten stuck again if I stopped for them). With all seasons, you would have been SCREWED big time.

yeah, but toronto shuts down the city cause of snow and calls the army.lol and lets not talk about the 401. how often they close it cause it snows...................... us montrealers go out to play when it snows, all the women and children are at home afraid to drive, clear roads for the road hogs.lol

I lived in Rhode Island (just below Massachusetts) and driving a Toyota Corolla I never got into any situation so bad I couldn't get out of with a pair or boots. This was in a civilized country though, have you canucks discovered snowplows yet? I'm joking, it's probably a good idea to have snow tires, but I bet some of your legislators bought stock in bridgestone right before they voted on that bill.

yah.. we torontonians never tire of hearing about "calling in the army" incident. unfortunately, our local economy isnt centered around such activities as tapping trees for maple syrup in the sugar bush or setting up ice hotels, so we arent as well equiped to handle a snow storm like you quebecois heheh.
