Gas stations get checked through out the year to make sure they are putting out the octane they have advertised. There are extremely heavy fines should the actual octane rating be lower. More than likely the gas you get is actually slightly higher than advertised to prevent anything like that from happening.

Yeah, I used to work at a sunoco place and i've talked with the guys that do the testing. They check for everything too, such as making sure how much gas is supposed to come out actually does come out.

I forgot to mencion that I'm currently living in Honduras, and I don't think they do any testing at all for all the things mentioned above.
That's why I was wondering if there was a way to test the octane level at home to make sure I was'nt getting riped off. |

^ that would be a tough test kit to get your hands on IMO, plus costly too.
